Why did Dean take such a long, bloody time destroying Ghoul-Adam?

He was taking out his aggression on John, for giving another kid a life he couldn't have

He was getting back at Adam for having that life, and for seeing a side of John Dean never got

He was beating out his own desire for a normal life, which Adam represented

He was kicking the crap out of a monster who dared to hurt Sam

He just used the materials at hand to destroy a monster. Don't read anything into it

I think that Dean was taking out his anger on the ghoul because it killed his brother. Family is everything, and Adam was family. I think he may also have been angry because John's wish for Adam to be protected, and live a normal life, was destroyed.
