A proposed ballot measure would add 3 cents to every $10 purchase from 2010 to the end of 2012 to fund health and social service programs. Would you support it? (Poll Closed)

Sales taxes are regressive, income taxes (as we have them now), are progressive - neither is fair. Regressive taxes hurt the poor, progressive taxes punish those who provide. How about we just have the government spend less? I don't particularly relish the idea of the government "taking care of" me (and everyone else) from cradle to grave - I don't want to be so dependent on government to the point that they get to dictate what I eat, what I drive, etc, which is what will happen if we let government be in control of everything.

The sales tax is the most unfair and regressive of all taxes. How about instead of raising the sales tax we bring it down to 4% and we have an income tax? We know this is the best solution and the most fair solution to the revenue problem. Our legislators need to start talking about the income tax with actual examples so that people can start thinking about it in its real terms: IT'S A GOOD THING! It's time to undemonize the income tax. But yes, we need our legislators to be bold and take the first step, instead of continuing hushing any lawmaker who tries to get the conversation started. Otherwise, in a few years we risk ending up with the highest sales tax in the nation...which means we'd be the state that is the most unfair to the poor, how does that make sense in a state that defines itself in terms of justice and equality?
