Season ticket holders paying extra for statium improvements now moving the Apple cup, unfair. I will give up my tickets if they move, Chris.

If we can't compete with the money we bring in as the writer tells, explain 97, 00, 01, 02. We must have been flush with cash then.

This is like Whoring out your wife for financial reasons. Come on honey, do it for the money.

    Some things are just wrong.

Are there any NCAA schools that sell out to big venues for a major rivalry. Also the only group to benefit from this is the city of Seattle.

The money's tough to look past, but the "home field" of Quest field is a myth and a joke! Make the dawgs come to our house...they hate the place worse than the California schools. Lots of money isn't enough money yet. Keep upping the revenue stream to WSU and maybe it'll look better. Not much better though. Keep the game in Pullman every other year. Ambush

I have an idea. Have the home Apple Cups in Pullman, but also play the game on the big screen at Quest or some other large venue so more west-siders can attend. Send a few band members, cheerleaders, and call it a "rally" so they can sell alchohol - that should bring in some major cash. Pac-10 is at a huge disadvantage missing alchohol sales.

I'd rather keep the game in Pullman but maybe doing it once every 3 years would work just to see what it would be like. The "Cougar Army" would still make Qwest over 75% Crimson just like the Rose Bowls and Holiday Bowl and the Cougs would still rule the state. Thats why they call it "Washington State"!
    Go Cougs!

College football is all about tradition - DON'T MESS WITH TRADITION!!! Also, if WSU is loooking for more money (and who isn't?), how about getting the football team good enough again to get to some bowl games? I hear those games pay good money to the teams who participate. Finally, if you MUST enter into this agreement for financial reasons, PLEASE consider doing it for only 2-3 years instead of 6 so we can evaluate in a few years how this idea went and make changes if necessary, instead of being locked into a deal for 6 years. GO COUGS!!!

Look what happened to the ROSE BOWL after the BCS took over.
    Keep the COUGS in Pullman.

This is a bad idea for several reasons.

First of all, it is NOT a neutral site. The Huskies may not be playing in their stadium, but they are playing in their backyard. Their team, band, and students get to stay home, while the Cougar team, band, and students will have to travel across the state for six years straight.

    Not a good idea.

Second, it takes a home game away from Pullman and Martin Stadium every other year. This disadvantages the hotels, restaurants, and businesses in the area which has economically been harder hit than the Seattle area. This includes those businesses associated with the college like the golf course, Beasley, the stadium vendors, the Crimson and Gray, the Bookie, and the Cub.

    Not a good idea.

Third, by taking away a home game from WSU, there is one less weekend for recruits to visit campus, for families to bring their kids to campus, for friends to get together on campus, and for football memorable moments like the Snow Bowl to happen on campus.

Who can measure the long term cost of losing those kind of community building, PR, networking, loyalty building opportunities.

Those administrators who are considering this move are not taking into account Cougar pride and loyalty to that special PLACE which is WSU's campus.

That cannot be recreated in Seattle.

    Not a good idea.

Fourth, this means that for three senior classes, WSU senior players and their families will not end their football careers in Martin Stadium at the Apple Cup. Incidentally, the same thing will happen to the Husky seniors. There will still be senior recognition day, but not at Apple Cup.

A sloppy sentimental reason, yes. But ask the players who have had that experience what it meant to them.

    Not a good idea.

I was there in '82. Never again should a Cougar home Apple Cup be played anywhere but Martin. If they want to play in Qwest so bad, let them play their home Apple Cup there.

"Personally, I'm against it," said (Jim) Walden.
"If I were still the athletic director," said the man who once was AD at Washington, "they'd have to do it over my dead body."- Mike Lude

Wazzu 1 is right on and I couldn't agree more. I live on the west side and I get PLENTY of husky to last all year. It is a joy, and refreshing, to go back to Pullman for Apple Cup. Plus, it's a great chance for WSU to showcase our beautiful campus, warm Coug hospitality, and wonderful college town. We are the best hosts with the best enthusiasm. How about focusing on getting more venues and hotels in Pullman, proudly decorated in Crimson and Gray while displaying our award winning Coug logo. This is what makes our school unique and special...thankfully nothing like the uw.

The game should stay as it is. You take away the home field advantage especially when you want a winning program. Even the Hawaii game should be played in Pullman. Playing in Qwest Field would take away the home field advantage since Hawaii is a warm weather team also the travel to Pullman would take it's toll on them. Seattle would be more like home for them rather than Pullman which is in the boondocks. Just my opinion.

Can you say "Snow Bowl" ? Can you say 1988? Can you say 2008? Why don't we just call ourselves U of W at Pullman and get on with it?! I'd rather play the Apple Cup in Pullman as the best team in the Big Sky, than kowtow to the U. Why should we pay for their new stadium and kill our fans by having to go over the pass EVERY year. Great idea Sterk, you'd make a wonderful AD at Whitman, and you can kiss my season tickets goodbye and possibly my 2 million dollar "Legacy" donation. Go Cougs! Huck the Fuskies!

There are things that shouldn't me fixed.. moms home cooking, Marrisa Millier Adriana Lima and the Apple Cup. Part of attending WSU is the college experience and one of the greatest experience is Apple Cup in Pullman. A sea of crimson and gray is a beautiful sight to see! GO COUGS!!

  • wes - 15 years ago

The only Cougs who seem to be coming out for this idea are the ones living on the Western side of the Cascades.

  • grant cummings - 15 years ago

They were slum dwelling dawgs who jumped on the site. Bad idea if you couldn't tell 95% to 5%
