Soylent Green is a pop-culture corner stone. If a skit has been based about it on SNL, and it has been spoofed on the Simpsons, you can tell anyone who doesn't know what it is that (a) they have been living under a rock, or (b) they should put the beer down, as they're too young to drink.
I admit, I've never read Moby Dick. I suspect that's as much of a crime as not having seen Soylent Green. A crime I say.
