What did you think of the 'Life on Mars' ending?

I LOVED the show, hated the finale. I had been hoping it would be picked up by USA or SCI FI, but the writers have made sure that that won't happen now. It is a shame it was an awesome show, excellent actors. The writers must have been high when writing the finale

I loved it. Maybe it didn't end the way we would have liked but it was nice for once to watch a series that had an ending. Some other shows are still trying to figure how to have an ending and most go off the air leaving us with no answers. So although it wasn't what I expected, I was still glad they gave us an ending.

The finale was perfect. We all know (star trek, matrix) that long space travel neccesitates some neural stimulation to stay sane. we also know that we see things not as they are, but as we are. that is, we see the world through Ourselves-colored glasses. So Sam gets to "work out" issues with all his space mates through this dreamtime. It was somewhat like the wizard of Oz. Much more like Oz than say, the Dallas show dream or Bob newhart.
In Wizard of Oz, the characters remained true to form in the fantasy (or was it a fantasy? when one is 7 or 8, Dorothy's Oz was not a dream but real).
same with mars.
Life on Mars characters remained true to form, and Sam was able to see them in a clearer light. thus, when revived, he was able to benefit from the experience. The meteor shower which through him back too far was a fantasticlly clever device to create the twist in the show. there are no holes. it is perfect.
That he was working out details with his dad, just shows how we bring our issues with us. the cleverness of the computer voice, which we all associate with the 70's, belonging to the quintessential 70's girl, perfect. 2B she calls him-- hilarious! but the very end, the shows title graphics, by speeding UP at the last second of the finale, going Up to the year 2032 or whatever it was, was the cherry on top.
the more we think about this the more we like it.
