Which best describes your feelings about Alexander Ovechkin's 50-goal celebration?

Let it be, it adds a sense of excitement to the game. Ovey celebrates every goal be his or a team-mates with the same amount of jubilation and excitement. I find it hard to believe there wasn't a smile on everybody's face when he did it. I don't like hot dogging but if it draws attention to the game and how much the players and fans enjoy it lighten up. Hey they still show Fleury celebrating on his knees with both hands raised after skating half the length of the ice on HNIC's intro.....guess that's ok.

alexander ovechkin does go a little over the top sometimes but as for the 50th goal celebration..let the guy have his fifteen minutes....he marked something in his career.
as for the soccer players..a goal in soccer is an achievement....you dont have guys scoring 2-3 goals a game...so a celebration is not out the question...
as for don...he needs to lighten up a little...i doubt he didnt get a little over excited when canada does amazing or when he achieved something great.

I think Ovechkin is great! I am very angry with Don Cherry's comment that celebrating has no part in hockey. He said Ovechkin should be a better role model and be more professional. Don thinks no one wants to pay to see someone do that.
I also remember Don Cherry's comment that "FIGHTING" is part of hockey and it puts fans in the arena.
Don - I would much rather pay to see someone like Ovechkin celebrate a grand accomplishment like 50 goals than watch two idiots punch each other in the face!
Congratulations Alex! You are no. 1 in my books.

I agree ... the game has no room for Ovenchkin's premeditated antics. (this guy reminds me of Terrell Owens .. he beleives he BIGGER than the game and his teammates...enough said. Terrell Owens is without a championship and thats exactly where I believe Ovenchkins is headed)

Lets review the greatest (classiest) players & athletes of all time:
Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Steve Yzerman, Martin Brodeaur, Jarome Iginla, Gordie Howe, Mark Messier... etc etc.

YEA THEY ALL ACTED like this guy, didn't they?..Please this classiness of the likes of the group above is really what we our younger generation to role model after...seems like a NO-BRAINER. Send OVY back to Russia!

I really think Alex is one of the greatest players to come to the NHL in a long long time. I admire his desire to win. I admire his team play and his dedication to the game of hockey. What does bother me the most is how Hockey Night in Canada and Don Cherry puts down the Russian players as well as other European players and talks and talks about their CANADIAN HERO Sidney Crosby. Enough of Crosby already! Everywhere you look on a Canadian sports commercial who do you see? That's right "SID the KID" Give credit where credit is due. Alex is an awesome player. I enjoy everything he does. Don Cherry should also give credit where credit is due. Cherry talks about "HOT-DOGGING" to gain attention! Don Cherry HOT-DOGS every night on COACHES CORNER with his dumb suits. Give it up Don!!!

If he wants to worship his stick who cares. I remember the night Bobby Hull scored his first 50 goal season. This was at a time when hockey players worked for a pittance compared to today's multi-million dollar stars. Given the money these guys are getting today 50 goal scorers should be commonplace

I doubt that Don or Ron will read this before tonight, but I need to make a plea: "Don't rip into Ovechkin tonight in "the Corner"!!!".

He is changing the face of hockey for the better. He really is carrying his franchise on his back, bringing more fans than ever out to the Caps games and really is what this league needs if we want to wake up the American fan-base. Hockey has always been and will always be a Canadian sport, I agree with you on this, Don. You can't rip into the guy for wanting to be creating hype and wanting to do something new. It certainly doesn't take anything away from the sport or a player's sportsmanship to see them celebrating goals. If anything, it wakes up the opposing team's players to make it a game and most definitely, gets the fans going!

For the most part, I like the new NHL, but I strongly believe that if we keep introducing new rules, we are going to kill the playability of the game and this sport will never open the way they wish it would in the USA. Don, you have a powerful voice in the NHL and I sincerely hope you don't influence any suits at the top to oppress the game more than it already has been. Celebrating is an important part of victory, don't let them take this away from us now too!

    Kind regards,
    Derrick - Ottawa

When I watch Ovechkin, what comes through is his love of the game. I wouldn’t want to deny him his chance to celebrate a goal, although I’m not sure exactly what the message was on this one (the stick was hot?). In the NFL they penalize for ‘excessive’ celebration, but in my opinion none of the celebrations I’ve seen from the past few years come close to being excessive.

On the other hand, the other night I saw a player raise his arms after ‘winning’ a fight (and the hometown crowd applauded). To me, this makes the event more about fighting and less about the actual game. Fights are fine, but it shouldn’t be what the game’s about. To me, hockey is a game of skill and frustration, punctuated by the occasional celebration or fight, but neither should be the focus of the game.
