I agree with Steve. Just because people are ignorant of the facts doesn't make it right. I blame the columnist and the editor for making the wrong decision in publishing the article in the manner for which it was. So much good could have done in helping protect these beautiful birds rather then adding to the challenges of their survival. I call what both the columnist and photographer did irresposible and neither having professional ethics. Their creditablitiy less than what it should be and undoubtedly will or should cause loss of readership.

The results of your "poll" only indicates more education is needed. Feeding domesticated mice from a pet store to wild birds is not prudent. Diease could pose a problem.
These pictures while pleasing to view do not justify the potentially harming these birds. George should rethink his methods.

Is this really wildlife photography? It's more a set-up. On 'Planet Earth', the photographers didn't stake an elephant in front of a pride of lions just to get a shot! They worked for it - staked themselves out for days, weeks for some other great shots. You could put a pet snake in front of some branches on your kitchen table, toss it a live rat and make up a great 'wildlife shot'. Good equipment alone doesn't make great photography. That's not even discussing the cruelty vs. sporting issue. What's next, an AIG CEO tossed in front of a great-white? Er, never mind.
