Since when does the vote of the people mean NOTHING! We have voted not once but twice. The gays have everythng they have ever wanted except to call their union a marriage, which it can never be according to definition.
Let San Francisco have their own definitions. The Napa Valley is still home to families. Let us alone.

Give it up--Gays, you have lost again, SORRY--God Bless Us All---and God Bless America
SINCE WHEN DOES EQUALITY MEAN NOTHING, MISS MARGARET? I am a lesbian living in the Napa Valley, and let me assure you that us "gays" will never "give it up." It is beyond me as to how this has gone this long. We are all human beings with beating hearts, and we ALL deserve the exact same rights. I will get married one day, whether you biggots like it or not. And shame on you, if you are one of the unfortunates that has voted for arrogance and asshole America. SHAME. ON. YOU.
God design for marriage was intended for man and women he cleary states this in the bible. He gave us a free will to choose why not choose life.
This is America & we're ALL intitled to our opinion. The issue I have with this is 2 times and it didn't pass. I'm a Christian & grew up in Napa, my neighbor was my best friend, he was gay (it wasn't brought up in those days though!) he danced & sang, went on to New York to get his Masters & work off Broadway, I loved him much.....he didn't come back to Napa because of how he had been treated throughout our school years...(SAD) he moved to Savanah, Georgia (I believe second highest rate of gays, he wanted to feel accepted). Okay, I didn't vote for President Obama (I respect him in the office & like the changes he's making) BUT I'm not out there protesting & causing a hoop-la because McCain didn't win. My personal feelings are to wait until it can be put on the ballet again. The world has changed & will change more....we now have a black President, blacks now live in Napa (NOT meaning anything bad with this comment) YEARS ago they wouldn't sell to blacks in Napa (that was before it became NAPA VALLEY!) (WE don't choose our parents). So God Bless America & all within it (God loves ALL of us!!!
Talk about beating a dead horse, everyone voted no!how many times have we sent this to be voted on? 100000000000000000000000000000000000000?
Gay is wrong, accept the answer NO, stop being a sore loser, and please, the dead horse you've bean beating, is DEAD! LEAVE THE POOR THING ALONE ITS ALREADY A FRIKIN PANCAKE BY NOW! it even says in the Bible that bein gay is wrong. sodom an gomorah was destroyed cuz they were all gay. why dont the gays just leave it alone, i mean we voted on it a kizzilion times an we sed no. sumtimes we dont get what we want. i want a big ass library like 3 stories high, except instead of books are video games! is that rediculous? yes! do i get it? hell no! gays want gay marrige. is that rediculous? yes! do they get it? NO! im mean its agenst nature! even animals arent gay, they dont even have the mental campacity to be gay! if we were to let gays be gay, wed be sinking lower than animals! and this people-are-born-being-gay crap? how can they prove that? ist crap! God created us STRAIGHT! its just gross!
....i think i made mah point! :P (havent used chat forums in a month gettin a lil crazy on mah cyber saop box lol)
a lazy chat crazy teen-
Wow you are ignorant. good luck to you in the future!
Hey! thats mean! im not ignorant, its what i believe. im christian, and i believe homosexuality is wrong. also, weve voted on 8 however many times, and it was no! you gays not accepting the answer "no" and being so damn persistant is like acting like my spoiled little sister!
The people have spoken. Being gay is immoral and disgusting. The Napa council and politicians should be spending their time and our money on issues that affect business and life in NAPA. Van Gayden should be impeached and hazed by his fellow councilmen.
Thank God that the ethics of the great state of California are on the rebound. This state was just about down the toilet. Now, if we can pass a law that requires all employers to use E-Verify, and limit all state, county and city employees to no higher that $75,000 salary, we would really be heading in the right direction.
To any and everyone that says being gay is wrong or immoral, I say to you kiss my a$$!! How can any one person make a decition about my own life? I am personally not gay and dont have many gay friends but I would never tell anyone else how they can or can not live their life! What gives anyone the wright to be judgemental to others? And as far as religion goes....ur oh so dear pope made a stupid statement recently...condoms are not the answer to stop spreading AIDS....WHAT??? Ya nice comment! God, I hope this is overturned and every American has the right to live their life as they see fit!!!
What many people don't seem to understand, including you, Margaret, is that the gays absolutely do NOT have "everything they have ever wanted." Not at all. We pay the same taxes as you, but we do not enjoy the same rights you can simply take for granted. And that, friend, is un-American, unfair, and wrong. Marriage comes with almost exactly one THOUSAND specific legal benefits to couples, including the ability to pass along one's estate to one's spouse without federal taxes, the right to visit one another in the hospital, and many more. Consider this: Even if my company offers domestic partner coverage on its health insurance policy, under IRS rules, I have to pay income taxes on the (enormous) value of that insurance--in my past, that has been as much as $350 in taxes per month! How Christian is it to deny me the right to visit my sick partner in the hospital? To tell a gay couple that builds a life, a home, and a bank account together over 50 years that the surviving partner must pay outrageous estate taxes that you would not have to pay?
You are clueless. You're also on the wrong side of history. And eventually, inevitably, you will lose.
One more point: This is exactly the wrong kind of issue to be decided by ignorant mob rule. "Tyranny of the majority"--Google it.
There are more than 50% sucessful "straight marriages" ending in a "divorce"! I know more than that amount of gay relationships that have suceeded. Sounds like this question is as equally divided. I wish that all people have the right to marry. Black/white/brown/yellow. Man/man. Woman/woman/ Man/woman. This needs to be settled so we can focus on other important things. I say I wish I can ask my love to marry and have the blessings of our god and families. Oh... I am a man and so is he. REPEAL PROP 8! Dave H.
I find the Biblical references to what does or does not constitute a marriage pointless and without merit. Discrimination of a minority is wrong even when voted by the majority. Flawed Biblical references do nothing to change this fundamental truth. Ditto the castigation of gay and lesbian couples because they do not conform to the so-called "Christian" ideal. In human history, far more harm has been done in the name of Christianity than many so-called Christians will ever admit.
I do not believe in the Bible. Nor am I gay. The Bible is not the Law of the Land. The Constitution is. I do believe ALL Americans are entitled to exactly the same rights under the Constitution. What gives people posing as Christians (or anything else) the right to decide what is best for the rest of us? In their wisdom, the founding fathers of our country saw fit to create a secular entity with separation of Church and State. This doctrine is one of the cornerstones of the Constitution and one of the reasons why the United States is such a wonderful place in which to live.
Gay and lesbian Americans are guaranteed the same treatment and rights as the rest of us. By withholding any of these rights, we diminish ourselves as a nation, as a state, (California) and as individuals. Allowing gay and lesbian people to enjoy all the rights the rest of us enjoy, rights to which THEY ARE ALREADY ENTITLED, does not detract from anyone else's ability to enjoy those same rights.
I say remove the myopia and hysteria of religion from this question and repeal the flawed and damaging Proposition 8. It's bad law.
Thank you, Mr. Van Gorder, for attempting to advance the cause of reason and fair treatment in the City of Napa by making a statement to our officials in Sacramento. It's too bad our other elected city officials seem to lack your clarity and courage.
what gay supporters dont understand is how gross and immoral homosexuality is. it has nothing to do with living thier life as they see fit. if i could live my lafe as i see fit, i would get whatever the hell i want! but noooooooooooooo! whats worse is how gay supporters are so DAMN PERSISTANT AND ANNOYING!
Christians--you have been lied to. Jesus accepted gayness when he saved the life of the centurion's servant-lover. We know historically that centurions were gay. We know that the word used in the Gospel of Mark to refer to the dying "boy servant" actually had the connotation of gay sexuality, which the translators omitted in the English version. Jesus said to the Centurion, "You are a man of great faith", and then he cured the boy-lover. He did not say to the centurion "Go and sin no more"--Jesus accepted his sexuality. Christians, you need to hear the Gospel, repent of your bigotry and accept us as equals.
I would urge you all to watch this video:

I want to thank the City council of Napa for clarifying where the elected representatives stand relative to equal rights for all. Those of us who fully support equal rights for all now know where to spend our money. I can assure you that the decision of the City Council will negatively effect the overall business revenue of Napa. Consider this; how much wine do you think is purchased by the Mormons who paid for the passage of proposition 8? How many Mormons would make Napa a first choice for a honeymoon when they marry? Now consider how many supporters of equal rights drink wine. Consider how many equal rights supporters would select Napa as a destination for their honeymoon. Yes indeed the actions of your local elected officials do have an effect on the overall economic health of the city.
So thank you City Council now all of us who support equal rights know that we shall never spend a dime supporting any businesses, winery or tourist, within the political boundaries of the City of Napa.
