Score updates are fine. But they maybe too often for someone's taste. However, if there would be some facility for notifying important events of the game via IM it would be excellent.
Example: some reaches 50, or 100
fall of wicket
end of innings
any other interruption like rain..
I don't really believe that IM bots are a good idea in this case, as it's a one sided communication. Instead it would be great to have desktop widgets for the same. Widgets sitting on the desktop and fetching scores would make much more sense. Probably, it can have some way to send notification when an important event happens e.g. boundary is hit or a wicket falls. Like the notification widget available in GNOME can be used. I wonder if it's possible for other OS's though.
