If everyone would just support the U.S. and quit supporting all the other countries that hate us, and our government would stay out of our business,
we would be in great shape!

I'll buy any electric car at a reasonable value. If Canada makes one, great, if the Americans give it a honest effort, fantastic, if the Chinese put out decent product, even better! I'm not going to *wait* for an American electric car. Hell knows they've have enough time so I'm not about to reward any company for blowing it. They had it and killed it (multiple times), remember?

Hell no. The Chinese have screwed the pooch on way too many products of late for me to willingly buy anything from them much less a car. I'll continue to ride my 10 year old Taiwanese made bike or my 38 year old Chicago made Schwinn thank you very much.

um, i take longer trips then 11 miles, so it would just be a waste of money, plus there's just the whole look of the car and actual reliability....

As usual my thoughts are at extremes of the spectrum. I've got no problem with driving a chinese electric car, except that the energy to manufacture it likely came from coal and coal mined by underpaid workers in unsafe work environments. So get a bike if you're able!!!

Not the first batch! I'd want to see how they stack up before I buy one myself. If I buy an electric soon it would be Japanese or American, maybe European. I’m leaning toward a hybrid right now as they seem more practical, keep in mind I am single and only intend on having one car for 80% of my needs. For the other 20% I can rent something. I’d like to see car rentals not have the extra taxes.

I'm surprised that most people "see no reason why we shouldn't buy a Chinese vehicle". I see many reasons why we shouldn't buy a Chinese vehicle! has anyone looked them up on youtube? my god, there made out of plastic. The crash tests are abominable. Safety is zero. Might as well drive a huge aluminum can. Electric, huge electric aluminum can. Don't get me wrong, i have nothing against the Chinese but come one, they should really step it up on safety and quality if they want to become a "viable competitor" as David said. Plus a car from Walmart?...your just asking to die. Get a bike.

I think the only real question is about spec & quality. Many people probably wouldn't have purchased anything made by 'LG' just ten years ago. They are a ubiquitous and well-respected brand now. The Chinese can make decent products - they just need to watch the quality control. The USA would be making these vehicles already, if their polictical system & auto industries weren't so myopic. Well, I find it ironic that some are now relying on EV's to bail their bits out of the fire.

I think quality is very important, the longer a car lives, the better, especially an electric car, but I dont think price point quality can be judged on country alone. As David said American cars aren't all that great when it comes to build quality and longevity. The real question here is about how the car is made, what its made from, where the energy comes from to make it and power it and the ease in which it can be recycled at the end of its life. Currently, I doubt a competitively priced electric car would be all that good for the environment whatever country its made in.

I've heard bad things about the quality of Chinese cars, mainly from my Chinese wife. I would have to see and test drive a Chinese car of course and see what kind of warranties they have. I think China will become a viable competitor for cars they just need to work on their image and quality. Of course the quality of American cars isn't that great either, but hey, it's got a Hemi! Toyota is still the best in the market.
