Can you live without a car?

I think it really depends on first where you live (in the middle of nowhere or on a big city). And then on what is the status of public transportation from town to town in your area or country.
I know that in Switzerland the public transport system is very good and you can get virtually anywhere with public transport.
In contrast with that Ireland has a very poor public transport system and if you don't live in the capital, or a big city you're basicaly screwed.

I'm a big city guy and for me a car in a big city is more of a problem than a solution, but I can very much see the convenience and use of it for people who like staying in the country or that need to go to work, and that work is in the middle of nowhere.

I drive an eletric car. So i dont feel bad driving anywhere. But if the area was designed so that i didn't need a car then i would be all over that. I would leave the GEM in the garage.

I walk or Bike to work, for groceries, etc... but I also live in Montana where our public transportation sucks, and each city is very far apart, so as long as I am staying in town I don't really need a vehicle, but if I want to visit friends and family in other cities, a vehicle is a necessity. A vehicle is also a necessary evil for my outdoor sports getting myself and my gear to where I'm going.
