Why did Ben kill John after stopping him from killing himself?

Every since Ben was introduced we have had a love hate relationship with his character. The current cycle has Ben becoming more hated due the death of John and possibly Penny. That being said, I wouldn't be surprized if he becomes the hero when the story finally gets told. It's allows who you least expect.

He killed him cause he is spoiled little brat! He said 'who ever turns the wheel can't come back' LIE! He turned the wheel and what? Nothing, he bought the ticket and just walked in that plane?! But he needed John to tell him where to look for in order to go back...once he had a name he no longer needed John. I mean this is his second attempt if he really wanted John to be resurrected then why did he tried to kill him few days earlier???? BEN DOESN'T WANT LOCKE ALIVE. In any form. LOCKE HEARD JAKOB! BEN LOST HIS POWERS. He need to gain them back. If none knows Jakob talked to Locke, if none knows Jakob said HELP ME. If none ever finds out......

He saved him because John had lost his greatest and most important gift, his faith, his belief. If he dies in that state, there is no resurrection, as he no longer believes and needs to to be resurrected. Once Ben convinced him that Jack was buying in, he then believed again, and at that point Ben killed him, thus fulfilling his destiny to die. He had to make it look like a suicide so that Widmore believed he had successfully driven Ben to suicide, thus taking him out of the arc of potential leaders he has to contend with to get "his" island back.

after locke mentioned ms. hawking and jin, ben realized that he might just be able to bring everyone back. he could manipulate events to persuade sun and he already knew jack was starting to have second thoughts... (like ben said: if we have jack we have them all).

ben probably killed locke because he thought that was necessary to guilt trip jack and convince him once and for all.

ben doesn't care about anyone but himself! he wasn't meant to push the donkey wheel but he did (selfishly) NOT so locke could lead but so he could get off the island and get payback on Widmore for killing his "daughter".

He's not supposed to kill himself, especially not just for suicidal reasons. He has to do it with faith and confidence.

He won't be able to be resurected if he commits suicide. Ben had to murder him for John to be able to go back alive.

ben strangled him because if john had hung himself there would be the chance his neck would break or he would accidentally decapitate himself. if john is to be ressurected, his body needs to remain "intact" with nothing broken. remember christian died of a "heart attack".
