Consider a gas tax will be permanent, it will never go away, and if gets support to pass it will be increased. The Big Dig is a prior failed stimulus attempt, $14B, funded by borrowed money, which we now must pay. Like the high risk housing loans of 10 years ago, another failed stimulus borrowing frenzie, causing the current mortage disaster, and which did not work, the current $800B borrowing scheme.
Raising taxes and borrowing should be earmarked for manufacturing job creation and training. Taxing the working class out of existance will not generate wealth or create permanent jobs.
Consider that reducing gas use is good for the planet and we need all the encouragement we can get to do it!
