Dale, it most certainly does sound like sour grapes. No she's not connected to the paper, I can vouch for her on that. The way the paper pics its finalists is based more on your timing than anything but there's nothing saying you can't submit more than one caption. Whether you think your caption is funnier than someone else's really doesn't mean much as the only audience you need to write for is the paper's staff, once you figure out what they like, keep writing like that. If you go too high-brow with your submissions you can forget about getting picked. Keep plugging away and best of luck :)
