Should television shows feature mostly standalone episodes, or long-running arcs that you need a wiki to keep track of?
I can't remember what I ate for lunch. Please don't ask me to remember what happened on TV last week.
Every episode should have a self-contained story, but it's okay to drop in a few ongoing ominous slow-boiling elements.
I like TV shows that tell sprawling, ambitious stories, as long as there's some resolution every week
TV series should be like novels, and each episode is just like a chapter in the novel. It all adds up in the end.
The only only shows I like are ones where if you miss five minutes at one point, you'll never understand any of it.
It really depends on the type of show. Some shows work best serialized, others really need to be episodic
