Given that the town is facing a $4 million deficit, what should the town do about the Fire Department?

Nothing. The town needs the seven companies it has now and any cuts will put residents and their property at risk.

Cut an entire engine company, as recommended by the Efficiency Initiative Committee. The town could use the $1.4 million in savings and it won't affect public safety.

Cut fire manning down to three men per truck, or to a combination of three and four men per truck. The chief's not wild about it, but it makes more sense than cutting a whole engine company.

I don't know the answer. Either way, I'm double-checking my fire insurance policy.
