Anything that I can purchase in Lex Center I do - but unfortunately, the retail options are very limited.
It seems the town can do a better job of encouraging retail businesses and discouraging banks and realtors. Concord and Belmont have town centers filled with a mix of useful stores, eateries, and one or two banks. Why did all these banks devour our center- Citibank was kicked out of Concord, and welcome in Lexington. What does that tell us?
We need to do something about this! I absolutely agree that we are in danger of having nothing left to attract our residents. It is not the fault of our residents for not shopping when all that is offered are banks and salons. What is being done by powers to be to make sure rents are not so out of control that noone can afford to stay in business or come to Lexington. What makes Wellesley so attractive? Lexington has always been a popular area to shop but lately it has been quiet.
What can we do? Who can we turn to? Walden Books was such a great loss. The rumors are running all about regarding a few other potential closings. Do we really want to have to go elsewhere to do our shopping?
