Is belief in evolution a prerequisite for being an environmentalist?

Amen Kev!!!! The denial of reality and complete abandonment of the truth of how we affect our World has placed us in this predicament. If the "Invisible Man in the Sky" is as Almighty as he is professed by so many to be, why then isn't there a simple fix? It's so much easier to relinquish power and accountability to an unknown entity rather than take the responsibility and do the work to make the necessary changes to keep our species and planet alive. I don't begrudge people their belief systems, I do however have a problem with the irresponsibility of leaving everything in "God's Hands." This just seems to muddy the water both literally and figuratively! Believe what you must but face the reality that if we don't make some very serious changes in how we walk on this Earth, there won't be much left to walk on. I say we all roll up our sleeves and dirty our hands, there is little room and little time left for "praying" these critical issues away, there is much work to be done! Be the change!

Its such a pity that Evolution is still viewed as somehow the evil alternative to religion.
Evolution should be mandatory in all schools and not taught along side creationist propaganda.
Its time that the religious factions got off their high horses and admitted that there are physical explanations for our emergence from the primordial soup that do not require some ethereal being to have had a part in creating.
Its time to stop the war of words and get to the point. Without embracing the theory of evolution and accepting the consequences of each of our actions, in evolutionary terms, we will never, ever successfully tackle the environmental problems that we face as one planet (which incidentally we need to do if we are to succeed).
We have a choice here. To become fools or survivors. We cannot be both.
Evolution teaches us how we came to be and how fragile a path it was that we walked upon.

Materialists see only the causes and effects. Spiritualists may see things differently...

Although not mutually exlusive, some religous/nonrational beliefs will only impede the progressive potential of less miraculous intervention strategies as well as discovery of the change occuring. That is, if I am too certain that evolution does not exist, I may be incapable of seeing how a much loved pharmaceutical metabolite is affecting generational traits of drosophillia fruit flies, and thereby blinded from possible effects upon the 'generational progression' (a term creationists shouldn't take too much an issue with) upon other organisms.

... when aiming for a mark, it is best to open your eyes. Unless your a Jedi, I wouldn't put too much faith in The Force(s) beyond those which we see acted out in Nature; the phenomenal world.
