How will that help? It will drive people further into poverty. It will provide jobs, but check the stats...casino workers end up spending more in the casino then they make. You are increasing the poverty level...check Detroits downtown economy for a case study on if casinos are a good thing to stimulate economic growth. Come on people, Michigan is better than this. Be more creative than a casino! Start a business.
Sorry, Steve...You're WRONG! Casino workers are not allowed to gamble in the casino that they work in because of a conflict of interest. And instead of looking at just Detroit, take a look at the casinos up north. If it weren't for them, over half of their populations would be unemployed with no light at the end of the tunnel. I have first hand knowledge of this because I used to live less than 20 miles from the Little River Casino in Manistee. It helped create new jobs and businesses in that area. The casino also donates to the local charities like the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, etc. They have donated thousands of dollars every year to those charities and have created plenty of job growth in that region, due to all the YEARLY tourists that frequent that area. And MOST of their clientele is from the Southern part of our state, NOT the locals.
