A 4 day week will add hardship on working parents. Schools could go back to the way they did in the 50s. Parents had to pay for the kids' school books and supplies.

No, This State has low emphasis on education as it is. When the teachers are utilized properly as opposed to awarding them jobs that they are not qualified to fill according to the buddy and soroity system, then cut backs wouldn't be needed.

Salary cuts from the top would help with the budget shortfall. Children need to attend school. The schools test scores are in trouble as it is. Wasn't it once upon a time when they were considering "sat." classes? This crisis should not be used as an excuse to save higher salaries of those that aren't qualified to have them anyway.

I think it would be a good move. One day of buses, heat, water and food not needed would save a lot of money. I do not think it should be considered a hardship on working parents, I think it should be considered a smart and needed move. School is not a babysitter and we are responsible for our children and where they are when not in school.

I think it would be a good idea to shorten the school year it seems to get longer every year. When I went to school we had a whole three months out for summer vacation. I do not think we need to pay more for books we pay enough now as it is. If we wanted to pay more for books, and supplies then close down public schools, and let everyone pay for private education .

i don't think it is a good idea ! They are already trying to cram to much into the year as it is. Just think of how it will be if they go to 4 days !!! If they do i feel for the kids. I am not worried about parents but how about the kids ?

I think they should go back to going back to school after Labor Day like we did. Going back in early August is too soon. I don't think that they should only go 4 days. In the Birmingham School System, they need to get rid of some of those jobs downtown that are not needed. The firm that they hired told them that there were too many unnecessary positions but they chose not to listen and didn't cut any jobs. Children are leaving the system in droves and nothing is being done about it. Just my opinion.

No they don't need to shorten the school terms. What you needed to have told folks is that teachers are paid for 12 months a year and they don't teach 12 months but about 9 months. To make it right the kids need to be taught for 12 months, that's what the teachers are getting paid for. Yes I know you have water electricity janitors service and food to be bought and paid for but the fact is this has been going on for decades and needed to have been addressed long ago. As for teacher pay they can decide to get all their money in 9 months or get their money in 12 months. I wish I could do that get paid for 12 months work 9 months and get paid for 12 months. Any body else want to do this? I bet a lot of you like to be able to do that. But you know we can't only teachers , is this right no and never has been.
THATS WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED IS IT RIGHT FOR TEACHER TO ONLY WORK 9 MONTHS AND GET PAID FOR 12 MONTHS.
