Lebanese history does nothing but repeat itself. Its like watching a play with the SAME ACTORS exchanging roles once in a while. Fourty years and nothing has changed. The same politicians, the same speeches, the same promises...but nothing has changed. Decades have passed and we still sing "RAJE3 YET3AMAR LEBNAN"...all we do is hope and hope and hope that lebanon would become what we all dream of..w ba3do la hala2 LA REJE3 wala T3AMAR...while other countries build rockets and go to the moon, we still ask for the most basic of needs:ELECTRICITY. The Lebanese are known all over the world for our kindness, for our hospitability, for our strength, for our optimism, for our "love of life"...but till now we still havent got the chance to "LIVE". We aren't giving ourselves the chance to live : by first disrespecting ourselves and our Lebanese brothers (as is exampled by the comments on this page)...by having politicians that have no proper definition of communication between each other, no respect for one another, and no respect for the people they "represent"...by having the same "UNCHANGEABLE" LEADERS making the same speeches, the same promises, and the same FAKE WILL TO CHANGE...and last but not least the same lebanese population that persist to follow the same leaders for decades BLINDLY...To all Lebanese :CHANGE WILL NEVER OCCUR UNTIL WE CHANGE THEM (no exceptions)...AND THEY WILL NEVER BE CHANGED UNTIL WE WAKE UP AND STOP VOTING FOR THEM...its NOT IMPOSSIBLE

I'm a sunni woman but not a believer and i had christian boyfriends. I do not believe in harriri nor Aoun. Nor Hizbollah or Future.
    Nor Iran or USA.

The only commentary who said it right was LEB, Leb you are 100 percent right in what you said. The person who said sunnis who wear black where in Lebanon do you see sunnis wear black or with scarves? btw.

I have seen hizbollah supporters wearing mini skirts. Lets not kid ourselves
Lebanon is not Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran or even Israel.

The women in Lebanon they dress, pamper themselves more than hollywood stars and that is good in a way, freedom for women and rights are good.

We also see women in scarves in Lebanon and this is okay too, that's what tolerance is all about.

Christians, Muslims, Druze all well protected in Lebanon, i live in the west. It is hard here not only for muslims but for any lebanese or arab even the Christian Arab.

At least you can see a church near a moskque in Lebanon. We speak to each other, love and go out with different religious people inside Lebanon and some get married.

When are we going to think only Lebanon not Saudi Arabia, Syria, USA, Israel or Iran.

We all know the solution. But we are scared to take the step.

I'm not against strong ties with Syria i think it is good. We need also good ties with USA, Iran and all the region. We should not make peace with Israel until they accept a Palestinian state and their rights to return to their land. We got Palestinians on our land.

But i think Lebanon should allow peaceful Israeli activisits to travel to our country like gush shalom who is against israeli occupation.

We should also give Palestinians better living standards in Lebanon, work on their communities help them. Even if they are living temp on our land we got also a responsiblity for everyone living on Lebanon.

The Jewish community in Lebanon we should strength it. Lebanese Jews should be encouraged to return back we got four jewish synagogues that are forgotten they should be restored.

There is a tiny jewish community in Lebanon that should be respected and granted its rights.

Returning all the Lebanese Christians who imigrated from Lebanon!

Shias and Sunnis have to build trust between each other, what is the fight all about. When all the world fights we should remain calm and be tolerant to each other. You are free to believe in what you want even in a rock or a snake as long as you don't hurt anyone.

    Women rights, gay rights ect.

It is time to think about Lebanon!

We are not an occupation like Israel nor we are a dictator like Saudi Arabia, Iran or Syria and Lebanon is not bombing innocents like the United States!

Lebanon is Lebanon! tolerance and coexistence between all the people from all cultures, religion living in this small country should be respected.

Last Question, Hizbollah. Hizbollah have proved that their strength in wars. They would be perfect in the Lebanese army! They should defend Lebanon against Israel!

Israel is an enemy until they grant Palestinian their rights. (but like i said israeli peace activisits should be allowed to visit lebanon)

The Kurds in Lebanon should be also respected.

Lebanon is unique and we should keep it this way and embrace into more tolerance and building the country!

Are we phoencia? yes we are! are we arabs? yes we are! we are christians, muslims, druze, jews, armenians and more. Even semitic! a mosaic-land!

if u read all the anti general aoun comments u will directly realize that thies comments havent changed the least bit since this leader came to power in 1988,obviously his opposition had has and will have nothing new to say against him or about any other political issue.the lebanies forces and the katayib r stuck in thier own past and havent given christians or lebanies people any new ideas for improvment, insteed they have been waisting almost 20 years now saying same old same old about Aoun, while he on the other hand keeps coming up with new ways for change and improvment.weather u like it or not he always has new projects for change.LF and Kataib disition makers keep repeating the same old stuff Bashir jmeil said 30 years ago.
they obviously stoped creating ideas for progress a long time ago,the only reason they still have followers is because ov the fact that we live in a 3rd world tribal society that clings on to its secetarian divisions which keeps its members full v feer nd hatred.LF and Kataib will simply fade away as soon as aoun leaves the scene.thats the course they put to thies oun fait.

  • Fadi L - 15 years ago

It is really strange how people against General Aoun lack any politeness... Like the Lady ... What was her name DALAL... and so many others.... This is not a way for a lady to speak nor for somebody who deserves to be respected or heard... This is why I am more and more convinced to vote for the Opposition... Guys let's accept the others opinion and respect it... Because it is the only way we can build a home country

  • jay - 15 years ago

stop talkin like retards!!! yes we should unite! yes we should form a solid united front!! all the lebanese election is concentrated in the christian areas and comunities because were seperated!! but what we need for this election is change, the change of the harriri's domination, michel aoun is our last and final hope and he will win in the christian society, which shows that the christians do beleive in him and what he stands for... do not blame the christians imigration on him! this imigration was caused by the clash between the militias, the divided lebanon based on religion! not on the army that only tried to reign suprem on its rightfull soil!. the change is coming, freedom from the greedy, what the hell r u thinkin , USA said it loud and clear, if the opposition wins it will stop all of the aids... so all of its help was comin under conditions... we dont need anybody's help!!! (btw i used to work with the lebanese forces, and in their "command center" i realized how corrupted they've become, how far from the cause they drifted!!!!!) so vote for change, just wake up and see the damn truth,USA will never choose us from israel... im sorry but this will never happen. truly urs A LEBANESE.GOD bless

LONG LIVE GENERAL 3OUN FOREVER .

  • Moedii - 15 years ago

50 billion dollars red we are. And because of who? And many, many, many other problems are caused by the Siniora administration.
Why do we have elections? For to let the government that is sitting pay its bill. When it is a good governemnt, people elect the same governemnt. When we have a bad government (like this one), we chose the opposition. It's like that simple. So everyone who is talking about Iranian influence etc., 4 years and there will be new elections, but just give them a chance. But I can assure, Lebanon wil go into the right direction when we change this government of ass kissers.

As Christians we need to look at our Best inetrest. One should learn from the past. US has caused us more damage than anybody else. We have to start thinking of our Best interest instead of doing their interest which is the oil... US are willing to kiss the asses of the Sunni to get this strategic commodity. They simply do not care about us. Also, the Jewish loby is is grabbing the US by its nuts. So they only care about Israel security & nothing else. Where are the Christians in Iraq? Are there any Christians left in the Holy Land? Christians in Egypt have to ask Special permission from Husni Mubarak to repair a WC in a church. This is how pitiful our situation is in the Middle East. & Nobody convince me otherwise. I really pitty people who does not see this... Maybe Hezbollah has got a Chiiah project.. But let'snot forget about Saudi Arabia and Hariri "islamizing" Lebanon by simply buying it... Go see Down town. On the next elections I will vote for the Opposition because I need the support of the minorities like me. In Syria at least Alawi regime is protecting the Christians... Did any of you go and see Sunnis in Syria. They are all in Black from head to toe... Like in Saudi... And other Gulf countries. So this is not only a Chiite way of dressing.

Christians Open your eyes... This is the time to look at things the way they are. Hariri is helping and against the law sell our country to sunnis and foreigners.

I am sorry to talk like this. I was never a fundamentalist. But do some reserach and you will see that what I am saying is totally true...

  • Ziad El Daher - 15 years ago

The fact is the opposition has the upper hand this time around whether we like it or not! Lets just hope the General sticks to his promises and does not allow outside influences to shape future policy in Lebanon. Aoun knows that winning these elections will either make him or break him on level that transcends secterian lines. Best of luck to all our puppets!

  • LEB - 15 years ago

I THINK THAT AS LONG AS YOU PEOPLE AND MOST OF THE LEBANESE POPULATION STAYS LIKE THIS, WE WILL NEVER TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF ALL THE BEAUTY WE HAVE IN LEBANON BECAUSE ALL YOU IDIOTS ARE TO BUSY FOLLOWING IDIOTS AND RUINING EVERYTHING WE HAVE. I WAS BORN IN BEIRUT BUT BECAUSE OF THE WAS I WAS 1 YEAR OLD WHEN MY PARENTS DECIDED TO LEAVE. BECAUSE OF ALL THIS BULLSHIT I WAS NEVER ABLE TO HAVE A CHILDHOOD WITH MY RELATIVES AND MY PARENTS SPENT 25 YEARS BEL GHORBEH! YOU DONT REALISE HOW MUCH POTENTIAL LEBANON AND THE LEBANESE PEOPLE HAVE TO CREATE A COUNTRY THAT EVERYONE WANTS TO VISIT, NOT A COUNTRY THAT WORRIES PEOPLE WHEN THEY STEP FOOT THERE. PEOPLE LAUGH AT US, WE SOUND LIKE IDIOTS WHEN WE TALK ABOUT POLITICS BECAUSE WHEN THEY ASK US THE QUESTION: SO WHAT HAS THIS POLITICAL PARTY OR THIS LEADER DONE FOR YOU??? ABSOLUTLY NOTHING!!!!!!!! STOLE OUR MONEY, CREATED HATRED BETWEEN THE PEOPLE AND THEY MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE CITIZENS STAY INNOCENT AND IGNORANT SO THEY COULD GO ON WITH THEIR STUPID GAME AND FCK US OVER AGAIN WITH ANOTHER WAR! THE LEBANESE GOVERMENT DOESNT CARE FOR IT'S CITIZENS, WHAT HAS IT EVER DONE FOR US? EVERYONE SHOULD THINK AT LEAST ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT ARE THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY FROM THEIR FAMILIES THAT NEVER CELEBRATED ANY HOLIDAY WITH THEM.... LET US LIVE NOT LIKE AMERICANS OR IRANIANS OR SYRIANS, BUT AS UNITED LEBANESE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Alor - 15 years ago

Ya Lubnan, opposition means resistance, the struggle's ongoing in a world-scale and you're a beacon of hope, no matter at what lenghts the opinion-makers try to delude ourselves. We're all in the same boat but the sailing method differs - we should be able to resolve in the field. The modern-ist apparatus is a complete falacy. How not to discard the sufix-ism-ical machines and vote for opposition?
Lebanon is perhaps one of a few states in the entire world where democracy is a real possibility of doing something worthwhile and where real questions of representation take place and a consensual scheme of governing could emerge. Eventually we'll all understand that the FPM-Hizbullah memorandum is the cornerstone of a Lebanese project of its own, capable of making and disseminating golden standards vis-a-vis Zionism-s and their kin.
So Ya Lebanese voters, prove me right. Give hope to the people of the world that live in so-called democracies and nation-states that just serve modernist bullshit and hediounously kill vernacular and traditional endeavours.

Yet longing going there and there to the land of cedars, AbraÇalam d'al-Bortuqal

i'm christian, voting for tayyar in Beirut
While Hariri is busy paying for people to vote(he offered my friend's family in Sydney 1000 dollars each!) and Geagea and Junblat trying endlessly to make the shiites and christians fight, we really need people like Michel Aoun who dont segregate to be in power
If you want Lebanon, vote opposition, if you want a westernized fake country that will hav no culture, vote loyalists

The opposition will win this election . We are tired of this kid hariri as a Christian leader. He is sidelining us and calling the shots. At least Aoun is honest and he is fighting for the rights of the Christians and Lebanon . This criminal jeajea looks out for himself only and is a puppet of the Sunnis in Lebanon at least Aoun has a major say In the opposition and he is allied with people that respect him and they are trustworthy if they say somethingbthey do it. This is the unity Lebanon needs Christians Moslems all together as Lebanese . By the way jumblatt is leaving saniora and the rest of the hariri followers real soon andvthe world is also giving up on them hahahaha

Well gentlemen, try to be or to have some politness: it is a must in social living where ever you belong, what ever your color is, no importance to the back you kiss.
In case you care, I'm christian, I'm still very proud to be christian and I will vote Loyalist.

We have all seen what Michel Aoun did of all what he promissed to do. He won the last elections by spreading hatred about Hezbolla and then he went and signed the Mou with hezbolla. He promissed reform and now all the dirty deals are made by zoubran bassil. He said he wants Christian unity and now he is responsible for what is happening to us. He gathered his popularity from attacking Syria and now he went and kissed bachar's hand and ate his baraze.
He fought the Christian resistance to remove its weapons and now he is defending the shiite islamic weapons. He claimes to lead a civilized movement yet he goes and burn tires and close roads all over lebanon.
He claims to defend the army yet he attackes it when it is spreading peace in Mar elias when the dirty hezbolla are spreading insecurity.
He claims to be a victim of "13 techrin" yet he murders the martyrs a second time by shaking the hand of their syrian assassin.
He claims that he is defending the Christians yet he is allied with the most extreme muslims in lebanon: Hezbolla as a symbol of shiite blind extremism, and Fat7i Yakan as a symbol of sunni blind extremism.

For all these reasons and more I'll vote for March 14.

The Sinyora government introduced vat, increased taxes & for years did not pay the public sector employees their agreed pay rises or create a suitable environment for the private sector to flourish. Economical activities continue to rely mostly on the remittances of the Lebanese diaspora throughout the world. Money from Taxes & utilities were collected from the people by this government on top of assistance funds & donations from abroad, but the average person has not seen any improvement in services, quality of life or security.

Aside from political discussions or inclinations, it was clearly evident that the Sinyora governement has failed to deliver even the most basic duties, one would expect from an average semi credible middle eastern government.

There is no guarantee that the opposition will govern any better because Lebanon has protract problems that requires many years to resolve, even when assuming that political & economical stability will prevail during the course of the next parliament.

What is evident however is that, this current Lot, have misused public & tax payers funds & Aoun & others in the opposition, although no Angels, have cleaner hands & should be given an opportunity to demonstrate what they can do in "Deeds rather than in Proclamations".

In Conclusion, either ways, the Lebanese have not been lucky with their politicians & that is not surprising because 90% of the figures & political families one saw 40 years ago, continue to dominate the political scene.

i agree with Hala's comment : you forgot to put the option:" I am LEBANESE, I vote... , and I don't believe in sectarian labeling". Clearly, those who understand that would vote for the opposition. allow me to add those who can understand that , away from their sectarian sick mentality will finaly be able to live and think as normal healthy totaly free liberated RESPECTABLE citizens . based on what we read on previous comments sadly you all are far from being free, liberated or respectable .

i am a greek orthodox christian and i think that michel aoun (whom i supported in 1989-1990) against syria, iran and all the retards that followed them and against the lebanese forces who were a militia....that same michel aoun is nothing else but a maniac senile, degenerate, power hungry, a set up against the christians, a set up against lebanon. I think that any lebanese that votes for aoun or hizbolla or company, is not a lebanese and is nothing but a blind poor man who still does not see the reality. the equation is simple: Lebanon pro-West, Lebanon pro-civilization, freedoms, liberties etc etc....Versus lebanon pro-east, pro-retardation, terrorism ,communism etc... there is NO CONSPIRACY, there is NO hidden agendas!! wake up!!!!

Aoun is responsible for destroying the christian and he was and is the most cause for lebanese christians emigrating and leaving Lebanon. From his unprepared unplanned unneeded Liberation war that saw thousands leave through Jounieh port to the war with the lebanese forces which broke the back of the christians and resulted in the biggest exodus of christians. Anyone who vote for Aoun does not remember his history. History will condemn Aoun as the destroyer of the christian spirit.. not that the lebanese forces were any better.. I will not vote for either..
