Those of us with dry skin benefit from showering less. I shower about 5 times a week (except summer when it is hot and humid), less if I am not going out in public as Americans have developed a bizarre aversion to "people smell" seems they'd rather smell of petrochemicals and hydrocarbons.

I shower once a week :3
My parents complain and say that I should shower everyday because I'm a teenage girl. Thing is, no one thinks I smell and I rarely have that 'gross' feeling people talk about.

Well, let's face it, some people have more "active body chemistry" and really do need to shower every day or more often. I think people need to try to be realistic about how often they need to. It also depends on the season. Here in the sunny, hot, humid south, where you sweat just sitting, I will take a shower or two every day. But then in the winter I'll take a shower every other or even every third day. I'm not a particularly stinky person though. At least I haven't heard any complaints! :-/

Well Heather, first of all a quick shower in the morning wakes you up; also, some people have oilier hair and skin than others and after 8 hours sleeping it builds up; next, after sleeping for 8 hours some people have extreme bed head that only a head drenching can cure; finally it just feels good. THEN, when you come home in the evening after a day of sweating, pooping, peeing, mingling with others, wearing deodorant, and I hope doing some exercise--I would think you would want to shower before you jumped into your clean bed covers.

It is mind boggling to me that people feel the need to shower more than once a day. To be honest, I would guess that unless you are in heavy construction work, living in hot-hot-hot climates, or choosing to roll around in the dirt each day, you have no need to shower more than once every other day. Honestly, most soaps and shampoos strip the beneficials oils from your body, meaning you end up having to buy more *stuff* to put in your hair and on your skin.
And for the record, no, I am not a stinky, malodorous, hippy-dippy!

Why do you, Lloyd Alter, imply that us Swedes and the rest of Scandinavia shower only once a week? Do you believe that polar bears roam the streets of Stockholm also?
Lördag is, of course, a remnant from the viking era, not a present day practice.
