The bots have definitely helped the game. The premise that they are hurting the game by minimizing the opinions of experts is faulty. There is a great deal of discussion of plays and bot rollouts of postions both at http://bgonline.org/forums/ and gammonu.com in the bulletin board and in the match against the readers.
Bots have also made in-depth study of positions, such as Backgammon Openings Book A and Classic Backgammon Revisited available. Prior to the "bot era", experts made long extensive manual rollouts to confirm their theories, but with bots long rollouts are readily available to even the newest players. Since the bots don't explain why they made a particular decision, expert opinions are still quite valuable in interpreting the results of bot rollouts. The bots have also not eliminated teachers or lessons from top players, for much the same reasons.
