Another fine poll brought to you by deniserows. :)
In addition to the blank stare, I now get the indulgent smile from my coworkers. The 'we don't get it, but aren't you a clever girl' look that really says 'we think you're nuts, but mostly harmless.'
Quizical stares, usually. But yesterday I got a "WOW, that looks like fun!" and today I met a CT boxer at work. Yipee for me!
I get mixed responses. Most of them are either interested and want to know more or say "oh is that that thing you do with a GPS?"
First I get the blank/quizzical stare, and then I get, "That sounds like "fun", I'll be sure to look into that." Followed by the refusal to make eye contact.
I'm always shocked at how reluctant people are to do something that requires getting outside. One person wondered aloud how people are willing to do something that involves no advertising and then wondered how he could make money from it...I quickly set him straight. I even had a friend ask me what the payoff was! Grrr....
Mostly I get a blank stare and friendly, curious conversation but I don't find anyone as driven to go boxing as I am. The friends/family I go boxing with are usually just trying to appease me. UGH
I get the stare and then when I go inot details they either continue the stare or say let's go!
I too get asked what the prize is, or what do you get. Most people just don't seem to get it.
And when I do run across someone else who says they are a letterboxer too I soon find out that they aren't a REAL letterboxer. =) I mean, they may have found one or two boxes, but they don't spend their entire commute every day thinking about great places to plant or their next carve. They don't consider pulling clues for local boxes to be the most important part of any vacation. And they didn't get, or even ask for, any carving materials or log books for holiday gifts!

Ditto Wild Rose! I think you are the only one who understands me!!
Lately when I tell them I wait for them to ask. IF they do, I then give them two websites they can check on and tell them to call me when they do.
So far no one has! I just must be the strange one here in SE OH.
My family already knows I'm crazy, my coworkers are starting to.... =)
I have gotten various answers like: "Oh, is it like scrapbooking?" or "So if a lot of people do it, eventually the earth will be covered with Tupperware boxes?". I also have a friend who refuses to do it because she is too afraid of getting lost. One day I managed to drag her and her kids with me and my kids and we didn't find the box! Not the way to go to convince her. Some people also think it requires too much organization and others have told that when they go walking they don't want to have to read at the same time. Needless to say, I just go with my daughters, who are good walkers and who love letterboxing, and that's it!
"...and why do you do that?" or "then what do you do with the stamps?" Well, I just look at them! They're mine! I don't need any other reason.
