I voted "other", but it is really a matter of "I'll know when I see it".

None of the options included in this poll are clear winners for me, but I'm sure it will be like that time someone told me about Google. I forgot about Yahoo! and Altavista 12 minutes later.

I guess my comment is similar to the last one.

To the question, "What would make you switch search engines?", I'd have to answer, I don't know. I'll let you know when (if) ever I see it. I certainly haven't yet.

I am quite satisfied with Google. And I think there is no other search engine that will beat Google in the near future. That's for sure...

I chose "Results that better match my search term" but that isn't quite what I wanted. What would really make me switch are results that better match my search INTENTION.

I want a search engine that knows me. I'll give an example: Earlier today, I was trying to find a site that I know I visited a few months ago, that would tell me what time my foster daughter's dance classes are held. I think it was a blog site for the local foster parents association, or maybe the children's aid society. I know that the site had a calendar -- I think a google calendar -- that included the dance class.

What search terms should I use? I tried half a dozen different searches, both on google.com and blogsearch.google.com, but I wasn't able to find the site I needed. What would make me switch search engines is something that would understand what I'm really searching for, not just return the most relevant results for the search terms I enter.

I don't expect this any time soon.

I am already eager to switch from Google because of the monopoly they are creating , they want each and everyone to use Google Services . I would be glad to switch to Microsoft Live Search if there results can be as good as Google.

again, as Marc pointed out, i'll switch if it better matches my _intention_ . somehow.

Actually, right now Firefox forces quite a number of people change their search engine. These fellas made a deal with Russian search engine, Yandex, and are about to set it as default search for ru locale...
And they barely care for that Google delivers better results :(

Money rulez the world. Bah.

You left out one thing - personalised search results. Marc clearly states my thoughts "What would really make me switch are results that better match my search INTENTION. I want a search engine that knows me. " Some times I switch between yahoo, google, clusty, zoominfo and delicious to find a better match for my search intention. Google is not ideal for me but it is better than the rest for most searche queries. Google is also fast.

I am addicted to Google and if there is something that makes me change has to be something which looks and feels like Google and lets me also look at results from other search engines. The closest I've seen is http://fefoo.com/
