I do think that the mascots are racist, and that these schools should stop using them; however I do not believe that things of a subjective nature should be passed into law as this has a tendency to create many more problems than it solves. I would like to see this issue sorted outside of the courts, or at least without having to pass additional legislation, and for the perpetrators to willingly change. I believe that with enough awareness that this will be possible.

I would be for this resolution if it included ALL athletic and high school teams, even native schools. At the high school level I don't see native teams in our area do anything different then other schools when it comes to mascots. Being associated with two high schools that both used native mascots, (Bucks & Warriors), one changed and the other hasn't, I have watched kids be very proud of representing their school in the same way as native kids, but I also understand the ignorance.

As a parent of children who went to Crofton Schools and participated in sports, I feel the kids were proud of representing their school and being a "Warrior". They didn't do it in a degrading way.

Children should learn about Native Americans from the start.
One of my classmates in my Biology class has a son that went to school
on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and learned about Black History that day.
I'm sure the schools can come up with ways to learn about other cultures and
peoples.
