The free enterprise system depends on competitive pricing.
What insentive is there to lower prices to an affordable level, if preferencial treatment is given simply because it is local? If local retailers are not willing to compete, let them suffer for their pride.
Quality is another issue. Better product for higher pricing locally makes more sense. If the buyer is not willing to pay higher for quality, then he must suffer for his poor choice whether it is local or not.
