I have read with interest your article on banning vicious dogs. You have a serious mis quote in the article "
." There are currently eight breeds of dogs that the American Kennel Association has deemed vicious"

the American Kennel Clib does NOT list any breed of dog as vicious!! Don't know who gave you that information, but I'm sure the AKC would be very upset over it and I sugesst you research your information more carefully!

Why not write a good well written law that defines what a vicious dopg is and not be breed specific?

AKC is available to help you write such a law.

Whomever is trying to get this ban in place, and whomever wrote this article should be ashamed of themselves for the profound inaccuracies stated in this piece! The AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB does not deem any breeds vicious, most certainly not Dobermans! The "American Kennel Association" is the club you have quoted as deeming 8 breeds "viscious". The "American Kennel Association" is not a legitimate kennel club in that it registers any old mutt and it should NEVER be confused with the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB, which is the oldest, and orignal, registering body for purebred dogs.

If the parties responsible for this travetsy cannot even get those simple facts correct, how on earth are they allowed to pass laws?? What utter incompetence!

This is what your "American Kennel Association" has to say about Dobermans on their website btw, and I do not see the word "vicious" in there anywhere:

Doberman Pinscher
Country of Origin: Germany.
Size: Shoulder height: 63 - 72 cm (25 - 28.5 inches). Weight is between 70 - 99 lbs. for males.
Coat: Is sleek and smooth, and is usually black and tan, or brown and tan.
Character: Dobermans have a tendency to become very loyal to one particular person. They are brave, intelligent and excellent guard-dogs.
Temperament: If properly socialized, Dobermans get along well with children, other dogs, and any household pets. Dobermans do not take kindly to unwanted visitors.

Where did the term "Chinesischer Kampfhund" come from. This is nothing more than a descriptive term for a type of dog. It is not a Chinese Shar Pei. I have researched this in Germany where the term originated from and there is not a breed associated with it.
Chinesischer = Chinese Kampfhund = fighting dog The term "kampfhund" in Germany is applied to any number of breeds that GUARD. In other words, you will find this word associated with the Great Pyrenees when researching breed registries in Europe.
And for those of you that say the Shar Pei is China's Fighting Dog. A "fighting dog" in China is also what we regard here in this country as a GUARD dog.
Chinese Shar Pei were a guard dog of small family farms in China and guarded livestock. They are not a fighting dog as we determine a fighting dog to be here in the USA. They are not any more vicious then any other breed of dog that is popular in the USA. They are protective.
This ordinance needs to be about Ownership. Are the people who are the owners of these animals responsible enough to have a dog? For I will tell you, if they are not, they do not need even a Labrador for they will make it as vicious as the previous breed of dog that they had.
Pilot Grove City Council needs to reconsider this ordinance to not ban breeds, but ban irresponsible owners. To ban all dogs that are viscous; not because they happen to be of a specific breed the City Council happenstances to think are vicious. Where is the research and the data to support these claims made by the Pilot Grove City Council about these breeds? The registry that is claimed in this article does not even do this. I would like to see the documentation that supports this.
