Do You Hate Automatic Direct Messages?

HATE? Can't it just be seriously dislike. Enough hatred to go around without using that term for a stupid (albeit annoying) feature.

I actually would rather have an automated response than NO direct message response or at least something that acknowledges my follow.

I don't hate auto direct messages and honestly don't understand what all the fuss is about. Yes, I know Twitter is all about real conversations and the development of relationships. My only problem with direct messages is that it's hard to tell sometimes when I'm receiving an automatic message or an authentic direct message thanking me for the follow. For that reason, I stopped my practice of sending a direct thank you (not automatic, manual) unless I could make a unique comment based on the user's bio or tweets. And that's not always easy to do! Isn't it more of a "sin" to follow someone just because a grader told you to do so and then never engage them in conversation, read their content or add to your knowledge base?

By 'following', you're supplying permission for them to contact you. I get 100 messages a day from new followers - of course I'm going to take advantage of the feature and opportunity to drive them to my blogs. It would be stupid not to. If you don't like auto messages, don't follow!

I want you to follow me ... because you WANT to follow me! Not just to increase your warm body count ....

If you are using an automatic system, you have no clue who I really am nor what I have to say/offer.

i hate direct messages from individuals - companies i can understand, celebrities, yes...but some people just aren't that important to be that robotic. i usually unfollow people if they send me an auto DM for following.
