Gov. Sanford is wrong to risk thousands of people losing their checks. He will still be collecting his government check while the state is also paying many of his living expenses. It is hypocritical of him.
People did not ask to be laid off, with 8% unemployment and increasing daily in South Carolina. Why is Governor Stanford demanded the changes now? You would think the changes would have been implemented before unemployment hit an all time high, after all, he is Governor of South Carolina.
these people have paid this money.IT'S THEIR MONEY.IT WOULD BE VERY WRONG TO KEEP THEM FROM THEIR CHECKS.HOW WOULD THE GOVERNOR LIKE TO HAVE HIS PAY STOP. this is so unfare for the umployed.
I think all these people should go and stay with him and his family, and let him keep them up. How would he feel if he didn't have a check coming in, to help him get food and pay his bills.
Governor Sanford MUST be impeached. In addition, he should be sued on behalf of the 72,000+ unemployed looking for jobs, and needing the unemployment checks to tide them over.
Is there a lawyer out there who will sue him on behalf of these people?
Governor Sanford is trying to single handedly destroy the Republican party in SC. Who would support a party with the original Grinch occupying its chief position?
Come on lawyers, step up for the people of SC
Your news report included several people stating how long they had been paying unemployment. Employers, not employees, pay unemployment insurance in order for these laid off workers to draw this money. Employees do not have deductions made from their paychecks for unemployment.
Why did Mark Sanford do this at a time people need their checks now, when he could have done before now .He has had time before it came down too this.
It looks like he does not want people to pay there bills so they can be out in the street. He has no feeling at all about middle class people who made this
country. He could also get some money for our roads, they are so many holes in our roads. Could not someone get him out of being state governor. He is not for us. Thank you Carol
Maybe it is time Gov. Sanford to look for a new job.
People out of work cannot wait on his being satisfied with the Employment Security Commission!!!!!!!
I have wrote Sanford telling him that these are the same people who have voted for him and now he is letting these people down. It is my understanding that he is doing this to protect the unemployeed. How is protecting these people if he is taking food out of their mouths. I'm now convinced that I have voted for the wrong man. I will not make that mistake in the next election.
I voted for him in 2 elections, but now I cannot understand how he is a "compassionate conservative". A compasionate person would not deny benefits to laid off employees in order to prove a point and get his way. If an audit needs to be done, fine, but don't take away benefit money that people have paid into and now need during these difficult economic times.
I would like to know how Governor Sandford would feel if it was his family not being able to draw money to feed or house his kids it's sad that a Governor would want to see South carolinans who have worked so hard not be able to draw their unemployment money to support their famlies who are barley getting by to start with.
I think this is a mess. How can someone be so selfish and just think about themselves.. Well Mark Sanford can u pay my car payment, rent, cable, and etc. since you are willing to take the only income I have away from me.. I dont think thats possible so he needs to take in consideration things like that before he make decisions.. I understand all of the people that are unemployed, because I still havent got over it, trying to figure out how im going to make it.
I think if he wants to see where the money is going, do it but don't cut off the money that people need to live on. No one ask for this recession so we don't need him making it harder on everyone by cutting off the only income some people have coming in. That would probably make crime go up because people would resort to stealing as a way to survive. He really should think hard before he does that again.
My son-in-law draws unemployment because he was laid off, not by choice. Does Governor Sanford not understand that it's not only individuals that depend on this money but FAMILIES. My daughter and son-in-law have 3 small children and at this time this is the only income they have to support them other than family members trying to help, who are also struggling during this crisis. Governor Sanford should also keep in mind that these 70,000 + individuals and their families are also VOTERS. It goes to prove a long forgotton issue, NO ONE cares about the poor people in this world. Everyone jumps to help out these big companies and their owners,(who have wasted billions of dollars) and still draw 6 digit salaries, but you can't seem to help the little people who draw 400.00 or less to support their families.
this is sad. no i didn't vote for him cuz i don't vote republican. but this isn't the way a rep. or dem. should act in these hard times. i'm out of work now as well, and u think crime is bad now. what do u think will happen if people stop getting the little bit of help they are now, chaos and madness that's what. when u take everything from someone, what do they have to lose? instead of baling out every bank and car company, how bout the gov't for the people and by the people do something to help the people. bail us out!!! it's crazy how they say it's the taxpayer's dollars, but the we the taxpayer's can't get any of it ourselves. define irony!!!!!
