Why no Alfa Romeo 147 GTA? I own one and think it's fairly awesome, I'm not saying that objectively it's the best hot hatch ever because it probably isn't but I do think it should have at least made the list. I had Saxo VTR/VTS when they first came out and I'd happily swap that out for the GTA :)

but, Lancia Delta HF Integrale is one of the all time best cars in any field...
and is a Lancia, the most important historic badge in Rally cars ever.

The Golf GTI mk2 was the best, yet we can't vote for it specifically. More dependable than a 205, better brakes and less soluble than a mk1. Why omit it from the options?

The MK1 Golf is the ultimate hatchback and you lot know it.
I do like the lancia also, but the best ever hatchback produced and still thousands on the road today is the MK1 Golf, buy one, Drive it, Always Smile

Has the be the 205 gti and its big brother the 306 gti6/rallye. And why in gods name is the Astra VXR in that list. It's pathetic.

You cant possibly forget the Toyota Starlet GT Turbo or Glanza from the list? 140bhp from a 1.3l engine as standard!

The Integrale is indisputably one of the greats, but including this kind of rally-special machinery in a hot hatch poll is unfair in my opinion. It might technically be a hatchback but to my mind, 'proper' hot hatches should be simple 2WD machines.

John Swan how can you say the Astra VXR is pathetic? its one of the fastest hot hatches of recent years and great value for money. Fair enough its not the best hot hatch of all time, that has to be the Lancia Delta. 0-62 in 5.5 anyone?

It's got to be the Saab 9000 Aero. Supercar acceleration, questionable handling, the worlds best seats and it's still a hatchback....albeit one of the worlds biggest. LOL

I had a 1981 De Tomaso Innocenti with a 1275cc engine in the mid 80s. Great looking, sounding and handling though ride was a little harsh. I do remember having to soak it in Waxoyl (remember Waxoyl?!) and add some sound deadening, though. Perhaps not the greatest long distance or long term car... Tops for rarity value, though. Based on Mini mechanicals, it was enormous fun and was the elegantly styled hatchback the old Mini never was... Worth a mention, I think... if only because its hatch gets the old Mini into the hot hatch rankings.

What a poll this is, had several hot hatches, Alfasud ti clover, Astra mk1 gte. mk1 & 2 golf the first is the best imho, several R5 turbos, Audi Quattro turbo, but none of these comes close to the Delta Integrale they are awesome!!!!!, had an 8 valver now got an Evo 1 in monza red. The Italians cannot do electrics, or seemingly stop body panels from rusting overnight, but what they do is to put some soul into a car. Lancia, Alfa Romeo, buy them with the heart not the head.

the saab 99 turbo is the best! the very first turbocharged production car ever. Saab has always had some of the best engineered and advanced cars on the road. Saabs are the best cars ever made and definitely the best hatchback. when you build jets you don't just build any car, you build the best.

Saab Turbo a contender for best hot hatch, OMG your having a giraffe, pass me pipe and slippers. I admit its build quality was good, and it was pretty rapid, but it looks like it fell out of the ugly tree, and hit every branch on the way down.
