I agree, if the three was present it could have been either Head or Cohen....

I chose G-Mac from the list. I wish it was an exhaustive list. Even if the list was exhaustive, I would probably still chose G-Mac. I'm surprised Carmelo is not on the list. As others have stated, Raf was very good, and Poetry in Moten had the sweetest, softest, high arcing shot of them all. Derrick was pretty good too if he spotted up. How about the Pearl? How about Andy's dad? How about our local boy Triche? How about Coach? He was before my time.

Shumpert had the stroke vs. Notre Dame in the Dome vs. the Matt Doherty team with Troy Murphy

Gerry McNamara was just a plain assassin. When a big three was needed he delivered more times than not. I will never forget the big three point shots he made in his career: the many clutch ones he drained against Notre Dame; the huge 3 in the Oklahoma State game in the NCAA 2nd round in 2003 to give them the lead for the first time late in the second half; the 6 threes in the NCAA finals; the nine threes against BYU in the NCAAs in 2004; The three pointers against Cincinnati, UConn and Georgetown in the miraculous Big East tournament run in 2006. Shumpert and Janulius had probably better three point field goal percentages but Gerry was just a killer.

..and, Matt Roe was a whiny streak shooter who couldn't play D. Put him *on* the list would be an insult...

I have to second Greg "Money" Monroe...and Raf Addison used to hit 25 footers from time to time.

    I'd take either of them...

IF YOU ARE OLD ENOUGH GREG KOHLS HE WAS A PURE SHOOTER, IN MY OLD MIND THE ONLY ONE BETTER TO PLAY THE GAME WAS PISTOL PETE

  • Mark - 15 years ago

Matt Roe not being on this list is an insult.........

I'll bet Marty Head and Hal Cohen could have given them all a run for their money if the had a three point line back in the day.

I have to say G-Mac because he was the clutch shooter.......He made it look easy when he would throw the buzzer beaters or sink em with 4 to 6 seconds left to win the game for us.

I also stand by saying, SU wouldnt have won the NCAA title if it wasnt for HAKIM WARRICKS BLOCK

  • mark - 15 years ago

Greg "KID" Kohls would have been a helluva three shooter

You forgot to include the "original" three-point shooter for SU: Greg Monroe, THE man when the three-point line was introduced.

Also, the effectiveness of any two (shooting) guard is directly correlated to the capabilities of the one (point) guard. For example, Sherman Douglas' abilities made Greg Monroe that much better as a three-point shooter.

Raf Addison - although they didn't have the three in his day, he had such a smooth release, you could tell it was in the second it left his hand.
