Oopsie. The publishing industry melted. What happens to science fiction now?
YA fiction will be the only place for new SF authors to break in.
As the rest of the publishing industry crashes, science fiction will have a renaissance, because tech-savvy SF readers will be early adopters of books on their iphones and kindles.
Nothing much. We get maybe a few less books, but no major change.
We'll get a lot more media tie-ins, in proportion to everything else.
The percentage of good books will actually go up, because editors will be more choosy.
It'll be way harder for midlist authors. And anyone who's writing edgy fiction.
Fantasy will eat science fiction's lunch, once and for all.
