Even though Loup city looks offensive but kind of funny at the same time. (Tuesday-Thursday 1-2:15pm)
This is the most fair and unbiased poll I have ever seen! It is absolutely amazing in its depth and fair treatment of the subject of Native American Mascots! How much more fair could this poll be? NONE!!! THATS how much more fair this poll can be!! I would say that Mr. Zendejas should receive an exorbitant grant to further this ground breaking research!

I can actually see how all of them could be offensive in one way or another. I chose Crofton is appealing to the "Red Savage" stereotype. Even if it is a school mascot and they are trying to strike fear in the hearts of the opponents, I don't think going for the mean savage look is the right idea. The other options made me think the schools were going for proud or strong, or even slightly humorous.

While all of these images are likely offensive mascots, the Loup City one is basically a mocking caricature of Indians. There's nothing that looks respectful about that one.

I can see why the one person chose Crofton, but the Loup City one has the hair, the nose, the feather, the weapons, the moccasins, the walk... of course that is the most racist one! Crofton would have been my second choice, though.

They really are all offensive. Loup city is the worst, probably because it showed the whole body, not just the head and shoulders. I also think the Arapahoe "ken" doll dressed as an Indian is pretty bad.

I know that we talked a lot about the Loup City Mascot in class, but I had no idea it looked like that. That is ridiculous and I hope that they change it soon. I don’t understand what foot they have to stand on when trying to defend why as a school they feel that is ok to have that as their mascot.

I thought the Crofton mascot was the most racist/disturbing because its look reinforces the stereotype that indians are evil and violent. I think this is done both on a conscious and subconscious level. While I do not know if that was Croftons intent, I think they should look at changing it's mascot because of that fact.

I find the Crofton mascot to be the worst. I don't see how people can take the Loup City one seriously, and I'm sure that it will be on its way out soon, but it is also a cartoon/caricature, whereas Crofton's mascot is not a cartoon. Crofton’s mascot probably has enough "realism" to many people, which will ultimately perpetuate the stereotypes, subsequently keeping these more "respectful" mascots going strong.

The Loup City mascot appears to be the most offensive because it is the most caricatured of the five Native American mascots. I picked the Loup City mascot for that very reason and because it is only the one portraying weapons.

I'm from loup city high school and about 2 years ago we had a native american come to our school and shared with us his stories and wisdom and he wasn't at all offended.
And he doesn't have feathers there is just a bird flying behind him.
We picked your mascot in the beginning cuz we thought indians were cool. But now your just pissing us off! So I will leave you with one question... "What would Custer do?"

Tuesday/Thursday NAMS 1-2:15, I think the Loup City mascot is degrading to all Native Americans. The mascot just looks like something you would find in a cartoon helping elmer fud hunt down bugs bunny. It doesn't look realistic at all.

First of all: What would Custer do? He probably would have ran in like an idiot without analyzing the situation and got a lot of his followers killed. The same can be said about some of the latter posts on this site (looking like idiots). You guys are making yourselves look bad. Second of all: If their is such a porblem with the mascots, call up the administrations of the schools or go to the dept. of ed. Maybe the schools should change on their own but change comes hard if pride has been instilled. I am sure all these schools are proud of their mascots.

I think that this poll is absolutly rediculous and whoever created this needs to get a life. So every movie that was ever made that depicts indians as savages must be racist too, because we all know that they never wore moccasins, or used hatchets or wore feathers. Oh wait they did, it was part of their culture. And some of you put that the mascots look angry? Isn't that the point? Why don't we have freaking teddy bears as mascots then you all can be happy. I think that all the mascots look like an Indian. The problem with society is that everyone is too easily offended. Next you will be saying that all mascots look too angry and it is sending out a negative message to our children. Everyone should have butterflies and rainbows as mascots. The sad thing is, is my tax dollars are probably paying for this non-profit organization to poll on whether or not a highschool mascot is racist or not.
