The ban should be retained, but penalties should be increased to a minimum of $1,000 for each citation issued. Enforcement won't be perfect, but with high enough penalty many will be dissuaded to violate the ban. Other cities do it. I see no reason Independence can't. If one wishes to view fireworks there are plenty of public displays operated safely by professionals.
This should be published several times in the paper, as lots of people don't know this has come up for vote. Many don't take the paper and know nothing about it. My street is ankle deep for at least a block and a half on July 5, in yards, flower beds etc. It seems its always the people who can least afford the expense that have the most mess?? I am definitely hoping you will keep this ban and try to inforce it somewhat for a change.
