It depends on how explicit the text is. It could be harmless flirting, or very harmful cheating, depending on how specific the words are. If you've ever read (and enjoyed) a romance novel, and happen to run into someone online who's quite good at playing their part, you could be in for real trouble if you don't recognize it for what it is -- which is letting your imagination go where your mind goes when you're reading that romance novel. So if you're not caught up in an "online affair", avoid it. If you ARE caught up in one, best to break it if you can. That can be hard to do. You can also ruin your real life love life if you don't stop cheating with your online lover.
If he was on some 900 babe line, I'd say let him have his fun. Since he knows her, it's different. Check him! Remember, though, that there are those of us in commited relationships that like to have some small part of ourseves to ourselves. We like to talk 'stuff' and feel desirable to others, though we are not really obtainable.
I think that when a guy or girl feels the need to hide anything from their significant other for exaple like text sex it is cheating. How can it no be. If its not grow up and respect your love one and be trustworthy. Another thing you should always ask is, "Would it bother me if she/he is doing the same.
