Oh my gosh! Gift cards are the perfect present to give and to receive. It's so much better to get one than a gift you don't like and then have to pretend you do. The cards don't have to be used right away and you can really get what you want.
I do not vote either, really. However, a recent experience with a gift card at Best
Buy made me decide NEVER to give and try NOT to get a gift card ever again! The cashier made an error after using my gift card...and I was stuck! They would not give me a refund and it would take 8 days to get the money back into the gift card after they cancelled the errored transaction! NEVER AGAIN.
Gift cards are the epitome of laziness and they show that you really do not care about a person. Santa Claus would never give a person a gift card, so we need to follow his lead, use our brains and get off our couches.
I wouldn't say that buying a gift card is lazy, I feel it is inconsiderate, very impersonal. Any time you buy someone a gift, a smile it brought that persons face because you took the time to pick something out for them. However, you will still receive a smile from a gift card, but if you look in their eyes, you will see the disappointment. Take the extra five minutes and pick up a little gift. I mean, if you are buying them a gift card, you know the person enough to buy an actually present.
I think for seniors it is perfect as they may want to uses it for something they really need but are embarrassed to ask for as a gift. Also for the person who has everything and you have no idea what to get them. BUT for children definitely a gift as getting their wish from "Santa" is what makes Christmas special.
