Unfortunately, with distances of tens to hundreds of miles between neighboring cities and thousands of miles between coasts, the US is and will be a car society for quite some time. Promote and award vehicles of all sorts to aid in covering such distances;, cars/trucks over 50 MPG, motorcycles, mopeds, scooters, 3-wheelers, hybrids, alternative fuels, plug-in electric, solar battery assisted bicycles, whatever comes along. Would be interested in seeing various train technologies grow as viable alternatives as well. Amtrak barely scratches this country and many cities either lack viable rapid transit or what they have is grossly inadequate. Speaking of inadequate infrastructure, country wide hydrogen and natural gas refueling and electrical recharging stations, anyone?
