What do you think about Twitter DM follow auto replies?

I'm indifferent

I like the idea, so I can learn more about who I'm following

It's annoying

why add an assumption ("so I can learn more about who I'm following") to one of the choices? What if I like the idea, but for some other reason...

I like getting a little personal note, but auto-reply is an instant turn-off. It just says "hey, you're a number. i don't so much care about you, but listen to ME ME ME." I try to always take a look at a new followers profile and reply to thank them for caring about what i say (or at least finding it worth reading) Twitter is an amazing vehicle for communicating! We're super lucky to have it

I'd rather get a real reply to something I've said. How about an automatic DM right before you UNfollow someone? "I thought I liked your tweets, but actually they're [lame|annoying|trite]. Buh-bye!"

I do not like the auto dm or auto @ message...it feels spammy and icky. I tell people that Twitter is for conversation & if I want to get an auto Tweet, I will sign up for their blog in my reader.
Too busy to put in 140 characters? Stop Twitter all together and continue to blog, you are not ready.

Ah man this freaking captcha was not working and I lost my FREAKING long comment about this.: /

My point (as usual) is that the generic responses are a TURN off for many of us who have been on twitter for a long time (over a year, etc). When we see this automatic DM, it frustrates some of us to the point that we don't have the patience to deal with trying to catch some people up to speed and to share the protocol of what we can tolerate as a twitter user.

It may be a good suggestion for each twitter user to have a twitter list of what they will and will not tolerate before someone follows them. Almost like a terms of service. Even if someone does not read it and then they mess up and you UN_Follow them, the return response to the individual would be that you broke our terms of service and zero tolerance will be allowed here! I know this maybe very cruel but some of us are that fed up! **shaking my head on this**

I don't know how to turn off the auto DM that says. "Thanks for following me on Twitter. Best wishes in making the most out of this amazing network!" I don't remember where I turned that on. Does anybody know how to turn it off?

Twitter Auto-DM's only suck because so many people use the incorrectly. If you use them correctly, i.e. not to spam links to people, they're an awesome marketing tool.

Find out how to use them properly here:
