I bought into HD DVD, and by the sounds of it I would be getting double burned by buying into Blu Ray now.

With my xbox 360 newly streaming netflix in HD why on earth would I invest in another temporary format. I sold all my VHS for $0.50.

I bought when Samsung added Netflix and Pandora. All the anti-piracy crap makes the whole thing slow though. 2+ minutes to load a blu-ray vs. 20 secs. for a DVD, Netflix.

blue ray is on it's last leg. sony is working on it's replacement due out in 5 years.

BlueRay makes no sense. Most broadcasting services today offer HD TV shows and movies, and they are released very soon after it hits DVD (if not at the same time)... in addition to the ability to simply download or stream HD quality video today. So, if I'm going to rent something, (since personally I don't repeat watch movies like I repeat listen to music) then I'll just continue to rent HD movies on my TV media service and save money and landfills.
Optical media is a thing of the past. What do I want a bunch of future garbage for?

Finally getting a PS3, price is right, tons more functionality than a stand alone player, but I won't be buying BR discs like I did with DVD. Those days are gone. I simply don't have the collectors spirit to start all over again. I'll rent BR titles, and continue renting movies in HD with my Apple TV. To be honest, if the PS3 was $299 without BluRay, I would probably get that version. Maybe.

Honestly, DVD's are still fine for me. I don't normally buy disks for the extra content so the extra space on Blu-rays that are filled with extras does nothing for me.

SOny itself is already working on the next storage format so why would I waste money going to blu-ray when the next "in" thing will be out in 3 years. Heck they are already working on HD tv's that are true widescreen and not 16:9 ratio. Course maybe I am just bitter because I have neither.

Agree with MP. At 720p (my current set max), DVD upscale is really remarkable. Plus, I don't tend to sit 1' from the television, so there's no reason to go BR.

when blue ray players are under $100 I'll make the switch. Im happy with my DVD up-scaling for now.
