How many square feet per person in your house or apartment?

My husband and I and our 3 children live in a slightly less than 900 square foot bungalow built in 1924. It consists of 2 bedrooms (each 12x12) a living/dining room (12x24 feet) a kitchen (12x11 feet) and a bathroom (5x8 feet). It's crowded and there are days where I feel like I'm going to go absolutely INSANE from the walls closing in on me (especially considering that we live in a part of the country where you are snowed in from October thru March) and the rest of the time you are blocked in the house because of 100 plus degree temps with 100% humidity. But, it was cheap and it's yeah cheap. haha!

My wife and I are retired. The square footage of our home is approximately 1500 sq ft. This gives us enough internal mobility that we do not need to travel as much without going insane. With today's more efficiently insulated homes, the heat signature is much smaller per square foot than any home we have owned previously. The prices of our energy, however are doubled and doubled again by 1. Public Service charges 2. Distribution charges 3. Meter fees for each meter (gas and electric) 4. Increased energy prices and 5. Taxes. The additional cost equal the actual electrical and gas usage. To sum it all up, we pay more for using less energy than we ever did before. My next goal is to get off the grid entirely and keep all the same comforts. It is the right thing to do.
