I SPEAK FOR AMERICA,I AM AMERICA.I am a black AMERICAN,not a african american.....I have the right to just be called an american like any one else.I got in trouble when i was young went to prison for 2 and a half years and when i got out i had a new found belief system....CONSERVATISM.Why you ask,I met a man who showed me christ and the government and how the mess america was in is b/c of liberalism. It's the truth you know,Giving people something for nothing has led to people being slaves to the democrats. They love to give you a hand out but won't give you a hand up.They want you to get welfare and food stamps and entitlements. Now when you become successful and make over 200,000 dollars they want you to pay more. They put a cap on success. Is that america,to put a cap on ones success.I have seen people live in the projects and never leave. They have become comfortable with mediocrity and poverty and that's all they wish to know. That's liberalism.

Michael steele is a very inteeligent man and he can do what newt can't........Go into the ghettos,go into the slums,go into the barrios and the valley.Newt is a genius,he is full of ideas and brings clarity to them but newt will always appear to minoritys who don't know him as a rich WHITE REPUBLICAN no matter how good his ideas.

The republican party must be the party of sams club and not the country club.We need to act like the party of the common working man.We need to talk about poverty,we need to talk about school vouchers.Private accounts. We need to talk about education, jobs, racism, equal pay for women, paying for college, healthcare, bringing down the cost of healthcare, the enviroment.WE need to savotage the liberals by taking all thier talking points and putting our conservative answers on them.Conservatives always have better ideas that liberals......what's a liberals idea,SPEND MORE MONEY AND RAISE MORE TAXES,REDISTRIBUTE WEALTH,RICH ARE BAD,POOR IS GOOD,MORE ABORTION,HEALTHCARE,AFFIRMATIVE action,SEPERATE CHURCH AND STATE and GLOBAL WARMING That's it.tHAT'S ALL so we need to bring a new light on thier ideas and have the messenger like michael steele to bring it to the masses, bring it to the ghettos and the nation.SO for 4-8 years when obama talks,we bring out michael steele.........wouldn't you love that debate....STEELE VS OBAMA,STEELE would destroy him. Then you seperate the oh he's just white or he's just rich and now you let the MESSAGE DECIDE !!!If the jesus had the background of a rich magnificent king with castles and jewels no one would believe in him,but b/c everyone can relate to the common jesus his message has change billions of lives and the world.

The message can only be recieved if the messenger can relate to the masses.

    READ THIS*****

First as a black conservative i am a little biased,I did not vote for barack b/c although he's black,HE"S A FREAKING LIBERAl....the most liberal and his policies will doom this country.I Do think george bush is the worst president we ever had.HE IS NO CONSERVATIVE...he's republican. For one thing ,what conservatives and republicans have FORGOTTEn,IS BLACKS AND LATINOS ARE PROFOUNDLY CONSERVATIVE.70 percent of blacks voted against gay marriage in cali.Ask a black person do they prefer school vouchers they will say yes.Ask a black person do they support private accounts for social security they will say yes...most blacks don't even see 65.Ask a black or latino if they support drilling offshore, onshore or anywhere they will say yes.Anti abortion yes with both groups.National defense they waiver on,and entitlements they favor. That's it....that's all the libs have in blacks and latinos is entitlements. If we show them that the conservative party is for building wealth in the communities, creating infrastructure, building moral character and pushing a strong family you will see us take back this country. The old white guy thing is over(not being disparaging). There has to be new faces Palin,Steele, jindal, mel martinez, paul ryan....youth and diversity is the key for hearing our message. When minorities see a white old man they tune out the message. The liberals have painted conservatives and republicans as RICh OLD WHITE GUYS WHO SUPPORT RICH PEOPLE.That was obama's whole message...put steele in and they will have to now listen to the message.

NEWT, HAS MADE SOME MISTAKES, BUT HE HAS PROVEN HIMSELF TO BE A GOOD EFFECTIVE LEADER. I HOPE HE WILL GET THE POSITION. THANKS JO

Michael Steele all the way. He is articulate, personable and Catholic with great credentials. The RNC needs a different voice, not the same old. Newt should work with Michael.

My first choice was Gingrich, as he seems more of an idea man.

    Then I saw this... http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=26376

    Then I read this... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122637487379316665.html

I then realized that while one seemed to lack fire at first glance, he certainly has it in droves at closer inspection.

While the other is chock full of ideas, not all of those ideas ring true.

Steele hits the mark, Gingrich does as well but only by throwing A LOT of darts.

In this current climate, they're BOTH going to have to cooperate, whoever wins...

Both are great. But Newt has baggage, plenty of enemies, and has been in government all his life. Steele was a successful business man so he's got a track record. He's full of ideas and enthusiasm. And dare I say it, a better face for the Republicans going forward. Reps MUST begin the process of expanding the party's appeal. Conservative ideas don't need to jettisoned, but the choice of messenger should be considered essential.

I'm for Steele. He has the vision we need. Check out www.draftmichaelsteele.com

  • moonsbreath - 15 years ago

Both are equally good choices; however, Newt already has the experience of bringing the party together.

  • Lew Brower - 15 years ago

Hard choice. Both men are outstanding Republicans and Americans! Former Lt Gov Steele, despite his 2006 reelection loss, remains the reasoned and articulate voice of revitalized Republicanism. Former Speaker Gingrich continues to inspire, mine the depth and detail of the issues, and articulate vision. If not Co-Chairs as an earlier Commentor suggested, Michael Steele is the future, Newt Gingrich is both a personal legacy, as well as walking Britannica to History.

  • Benjamin9 - 15 years ago

Gingrich. Steele strikes me not as quite the thinker as Newt.

  • Jeff Ragan - 15 years ago

Both are great, but Michael Steele is more viable as a candidate - age and history. Newt is an idea-a-tron, and would be great at identifying key ideas and leaders to articulate them.

  • Joe Bradley - 15 years ago

    How About CoChairs?

  • Amendment X - 15 years ago

I agree that both men are good.
Gingrich has great history-to a point. Sitting on a couch with Nancy Pelosi in an ad sponsored by Al Gore's organization talking about global warming/climate change is not a heart warming vision for me.
Need I mention Senator Clinton and a health care initiative with the former Speaker?
It's unclear if Gingrich learned anything from getting beaten badly with the Clinton government shutdown or his ineffective fight when he faced spurious ethics charges (cleared on all counts).
    So, I voted for Steele.

Both men are wonderful choices for this position, but I would rather see Michael Steele run for office at this point in his career. He could help from the inside and Gingrich could work from the outside. Sounds like the perfect plan. Now, we just need to get Steele lined up for a Senator's spot!
