I will only miss it as a price-check on Best Buy.
No because CC had the rudest and worst costumer service i've ever received at a store, I bought their warranty on a mini DV camera several years ago and it malfunctioned, i had to go through so many hoops and phone calls to get anything done, they wanted to do anything they could not to live up to their protection plan. At best buy i took my wifes Canon SLR in because of some dirt in the aperture and without question they fixed the problem. I've heard many other people say the same about CC service as well.
With their terrible floor staff and even worse product retrieval upon purchase, I am glad to see them head for the sunset. Though I must admit, WorstBuy will now have no one to really challenge them in the mainstream consumer electronic market.
Now Best Buy will rip us even more!
Haven't shopped there since they wouldn't honor their own on-line advertised price for an iPod Touch 1.5 years ago. Walked next door, Best Buy price matched the online Circuit City ad, done and done. Haven't stepped foot in a CC since.
wont miss it the one in my city is not closing but it does keep the best buy across the street on there toes
love frys
between being a cold and unwelcoming environment, I couldn't get myself to spend that much money for what they were selling. Most of the staff that I encountered were nice and informative. The stuff I did purchase there did last for quite some time and the speakers that did blow out were replaced without a problem in one day.
It's a neighborhood place to get the computer and video things I need. It could be anyone or any business, tho'.
Circuit who?
Miss them? I still haven't forgiven them for DivX!
I beg your pardon: DIVX.
I would, because then I'd have to find a new second job. As one of the associates that actually knows what they're talking about when selling and makes an effort to satisfy my customers that come in it disturbs me that so many people are so quick to throw the store under the bus.
I buy most of my electronics from them
Yes, if only because it was the only large electronics store in my home county. And because Best Buy can be such a price whore. I generally went there when I needed parts to heal my ailing PC tower (cheap graphics card, processor, fan) before I had a car and could drive to Fry's. Now if only Fry's would expand...
There is one of those circuit city's behind the mall where our Best Buy is. I only went in there once, i forget why. and its parking lot, is massively empty. It was not kept well organized at all. it was more like a thrift store, but more expensive items. I don't think it will be missed. The skaters use that parking lot now.
I love the people who cry about BBY and CC being "price whores" when they both have price-match guarantees (and they'll beat it by 10%!). If people would do their research online, price match and stop flooding the forums with anti-BBY/CC threads this world would be a much happier place ;D
Won't miss it one bit. The staff sucks up your time and still can't answer your questions. They are generally rude, incompetent, and lazy. I am honestly surprised they have waited this long to bust.
Economic downturn does CC in? You're joking right? Come on, the Circuit City investors and Board had chance after chance to boot the C-level guys and never did. CC has been going downhill for YEARS. This is just the end of a slow, agonizing death.
I'm of the opinion that this is another example of arrogance leading to a fall. CC was #1 for how long and it controlled the play but when the time came to adjust they just couldn't. For goodness sake ultimately they dumped home appliances for software shelf space! It would be too generous to say Best Buy drank their milkshake but in the end it was Best Buy, Walmart, and CostCo who reshaped the CE retail market. Hopefully what's left of CC will emerge from Chapter 11 as a viable, true alternative - someplace where people with disposable income can find and play with new toys.
Crappy service, higher prices than Best Buy and Fry's, rude sales staff, sales staff that don;t know their dongle from their dangle. - How could they be missed by anyone? They tried a name change (just "City") and in my city, they moved form a busy area to a location into the latest "big box city" that can't even be accessed well because of the traffic. "Stupid is as stupid does."
Won't miss them at all.
...but if Fry's gave up, I'd start throwing chairs!
I'll miss it just because it's the closest electronics store to me.
Who needs brick and mortar when you've got newegg.com, eff circuit city.
I wont miss them one little bit. I was just there this Sunday and got a raft load of crap from a salesperson when I came in with a car radio looking for the universal adapter for it so I could install it MYSELF, it's almost like these people are put out by someone that knows what it is that they want and are not given the option to rip someone off.
Furthermore, every time that I walk into one of their stores it's like no one there wants to help you, thought about complaining to management at the store and turns out he was just as useless as the people on the floor, then I tried to call the corporate office to let them know what was going on..... well guess what..... took 3 days to look up the number online, almost like they don't want to be notified any longer about how badly they suck.
Last words are "GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH"
Any time you loose a local retail store, you loose competition for the remaining stores. I'd hate to have to rely on the internet for all my electronic purchases. Like them, or not, they kept the other stores a little more honest. OK, maybe not honest, they'd all rip you off in a second given a chance. Another one bites the dust.
They sold me a shrink wrapped EMPTY package with the parts missing in it. Although they gave me a replacement part the part did not work and I could not return it. I ended up with a worthless product. -- During the discussions I felt I was indirectly accused of stealing. -- Calling the complaints center from within the store did not help. I nor my relatives shopped at CC again. Its a shame that honest employees have to suffer due to poor management decisions. The issue is if the top of the complaints department does not listen to what customers complain about, one should not be surprised if customers buy elsewhere.
No...
Best Buy was/is/will always be better than Circuit City.
Doesn't really bother me though cus just about every CC by me is neighbored by a BB.
I buy online, otherwise I go to Fry's for emergencies like for a new fan or cable. BB and CC are right across the street from each other in my town, and the only reason i used to even to go to either of them was on Black Friday. Fry's I still go to because you can actually get a verity of parts for your computer, at BB and CC its the same stock with limited verity. Otherwise I prefer buying online.
One word: DIVX - i never forgave them. They deserved this long ago.
I don't think I've ever set foot in Circuit City. I've been to BB maybe 3 times.
Newegg for gadgets & Amazon for other crap.
I feel compelled o jump in here because of everyone bashing CC's cust. service.
First, i agree, it sucks now. It sucks hard. It didnt use to be that way. I worked there a few years ago. Back when all employees made a decent wage and commision on top of that. I was an installer in the Road Shop and made incentives myself. I know quite a few of teh guys there were making some pretty good coin because CC made an effort to take care of thier employees.
One afternoon we were all (all employees) told to report to the store the next day at 7am. No one told us why. Turns out, they laid-off about 3/4s of the store that morning. Reason? We were making too much money. They did away with commision and replaced our possitions with people they paid $7.50/hour with no commision/incentives. 2 years later, when some of these people had been there for some time (my best friend) and were making about $11/hour, they did another ninja layoff and axed more than half the employees. None of these hard working individuals received warning. I know i didnt. Sucks to have your job axed because you are too good at it. If you look at CCs numbers, you can actually see the suck take effect right around teh time the layoffs happened.
I'll miss CircuitCity because they their prices were good and never had problem with customer service. I was a employee for 'worstbuy' and quit their after working for a month. The truth behind worstbuy's customer service is unethical. They make you watch videos on how to judge people. For example: 'from what kind of clothes they were, the way they talk, and the way they look.'
It's ridiculous that if you get a "careless spender," you sell him/her the most expensive thing. Yep, even if he/she is never going to use a certain feature, that cost extra, sell it to that person. And if you walk in like homeless person, you get ignored. Or get a bad service.
It was over the top for me because it's unethical. It's funny how best buy tries to TRAIN their employees in a way that they don't realize it. But since I'm a psychology person, I figured it out and chose to quit.
Circuit who???
I will Miss you Circuit city...I use to work there and let me tell you they were the best retail job I have ever ever ever had the managers were awesome and my co-workers the best.Customers we had good ones and stupid ones of course and for you people who said we had the rudest customer service fuck you! don't expect for us to lick your anus dumbass! but anyways I will certainly miss you circuit city! (tears)
