In light of the election results, what is the state of the conservative movement?

It is dead and unlikely to be revived.

It is very sick but might recover.

Some good, some bad.

It is in pretty good shape overall.

It is in excellent shape and will rebound big time in 2010 and 2012.

I'm not sure yet.

The GOP is primarily a party of Southerns. That is where the power lies: Bush,Cheney, Delay, Armey from Texas. McCain's family is Mississippi based,Trent Lott of Miss then Bill Frist of Tenn. Reagan kicked off his campaign in Philadelphia Miss where the civil rights volunteers had been murdedred and stated that he was for "states rights" wink wink. McCain kicked off his campaign in Kenner LA.
Kevin Phillips best describes the things that have led to the demise of the party. Wealth and Politics points out that when all of the money goes to the top, there is not sufficient buying power and the economy collapses. American Thoecracy point out how the religious right dominates the party, and his last book "Bad money" gave a foreshawoding of the current crisis.
Prize winning economist writer Dr. Ravi Batra predicted all of the current crisis in his great book- The New Golden Age. He also published "Greenspan's Fraud.
As he points out, tax cuts do not work and they sure as hell do not work when the cuts go to the ultra rich who create jobs out of country rather than here in the USA.
As to the rich paying a large amount of taxes- go to the website" L curev.org and see how much the super rich own in this country. The concentration of weatlth at the top is even worse that in the 1930 where we had Hardin, Coolridge, and then Hoover run the economy into the ditch.
Reagan, Bush, Bush, Bush (interrupted between Bush the elder and Bush the war monger with 8 years of growth by Clinton) has put us in the ditch but Bush the war monger has transferred a hugh amount of the country's wealth to Perini Group, Bechel, Halliburton, Blackwater, AIG and so and continues to try and pay off his backers in his last days in office.
The GOP will not be able to "cage" enough votes to win anytime in the near futuret.

Mr Grayson say "Dr. Ravi Batra predicted ...tax cuts do not work and they sure as hell do not work when the cuts go to the ultra rich who create jobs out of country rather than here in the USA." and "Reagan, Bush, Bush, Bush (interrupted between Bush the elder and Bush the war monger with 8 years of growth by Clinton)" but misses the fact that it takes time for the tax cuts to work their way through the economy. Clinton benefited from the Reagan tax cuts. If Clinton had not re-raised taxes imagine how much better the growth would have been. I will agree that creating jobs outside the country is bad but I counter that the "progressive" tax rates that punish investment in the US are the reason for those jobs being created overseas. Lower taxes always leads to more money for government and more money in the economy. Always has always will. Regardless of what Dr.Batra or others say and predict.
