Are people going to call Paul Watson an extremist when our world is gone? He is a hero only doing what are so called "leaders" are not!!!

  • Cherie - 14 years ago

You pack of negitive wankers. Wish there more people like Paul Watson. And i wish all you so called Whale lovers should be donating more money so the Sea Sheperds can replace this slow old run down ship. Put a end to this cruel needless pain of these amazing animals.

  • BOBBYBREEZER - 14 years ago

I KNOW WATSON IS A FOOL BUT HE HAS A TWIN.
THAT JERKOFF ON THE ADA GIL, HE'S A TOPPER. WHAT A IDIOT. HE'S GOING TO CREATE HAVOC. CAN HARDLY WAIT UNTIL HE GETS HIS ASS SUNK.
THAT PIECE OF CRAP HE IS THE "SKIPPER" OF. ITS A MORPHIDTE PIECE OF JUNK. NEVER HAVE I SEEN A MORE WORTLESS VESSEL. IT PORPISE'S THRU THE WAVES, ILL HANDLEING. IT WAS SOME IDIOTS DREAM, TURN INTO A NIGHTMARE. HE GAVE IT TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE.
NOW THEY ARE FIRING HIGH VELOCITY PROJECTILES AT THE WHALERS, I HOPE THE JAPS GIVE THEM THE SAME IN RETURN. THAT FOOL WATSON WONT STOP UNTIL HE GETS SOMEONE KILLED. HE BELONGS IN PRISON.
I SAW WATSON AND A COUPLE OF HIS KISS ASS FOLLOWERS ON THE KING SHOW. BARKER AND WATSON BELONG ON THE LARRY KING "SHOW". I DIDNT SEE THAT OTHER JACKASS WHO WAS GOING TO CREATE HAVOC WITH THE WHALERS. LOL WHAT A DISGRACE.

  • June - 14 years ago

I think captain Watson is a hero! Whales are intellegent, have emotion. Do you think you can get away if you kill a human being? No! But you can kill hundreds of whales and get away with it, where is the law??? Human being is the stupidest speices in the world, we are destroying our planet, ultimately detroying ourself. I hope the whole world would watch "Whale War" and stand up for the whales!!!

  • Mavis - 14 years ago

Why has the International Whaling Commission not asked to see the research results from all these years of "research" that the Japanese have claimed they are doing? What have they shown by 25 years of so-called research? Has it benefited mankind? Or just those who sell the meat? Why are these questions not being asked by the USA and other anti-whaling nations?

  • Mavis - 14 years ago

Omigosh! Can't believe that some people are saying that we are hypocrites because this is meat....what about those of us who are vegetarians for just that reason?!?!?!?! These whales are sentient-[rpbably smarter than some of those who have posted here....you know who you are! Wait-no, you probably don't realize how lacking youa re in the intelligence department..whoops-sorry about the big words.

  • Mavis - 14 years ago

I think the Sea Shepherd needs MORE methods to disrupt the whaling trade....this is murder, not research! I am all for violence when it is needed, so the ship and crew are very conservative in their responses. Given the time and money, I'd sink all those Japanese ships...and throw the crew members inflatable life rafts.

  • sara - 14 years ago

i will repost another users comment as it should be read again by all of you....

What you people don't realize is that if Paul wasn't doing what he was doing, then we wouldn't have this press for the whales. Japan and Norway are extreme countries that need to be stopped. I can't believe that the rest of the world doesn't shut them down. They are laughing in our faces and destroying our wonderful and intelligent creatures for money. Yes, Paul seems nutty and on the edge, but he is doing what the rest of the world should be doing.
On another note, we are all judging from our living rooms. Get real. Anyone with half a brain knows that the program is made to look extreme to get an audience. Keep it up Paul and crew. We love you for it.

--keep it up Sea Shepards... much love to you & the whales!!

  • jeff - 14 years ago

I agree with MDS" comment, Pauls an IDIOT and Shannans HOT, its only a matter of time until these bungleing fools get killed or kill someone, i have to say i want the episode that shows the Sea Shepard going down in the ocean, only id feel bad for the camera crew unless their tree huggin faggots too.I rout for the Japanese ships on every show,Watsons a terrorist and needs a good ass kickin, id love to meet him and shove some whale meat down his fat throat

  • rick - 14 years ago

what a jerk this guy is risk everyones lives needs to be stopped listen to them cry when someone gets hurt or killed because of this idiots actions this whole crew of tree suckers need a boot in their ass if they keep it up i bet it happens then we will be so sad lol.

  • MDS - 14 years ago

Please don't ever take this show off the air! It's HILARIOUS! This guy is a top-flight moron and so many of his crew are just idiot greenie morons. Saving whales is essential. Sustainable energy is essential. Reducing pollution is essential. Organic farming is essential. Whale Wars is a SIDESHOW. But like I said, they're so idiotic and misguided, I can't look away. Comic gold!

I captain a recreational vessel and have had the blessing of saving myself and two crew members in separate, unpreventable emergencies at sea. I would never willingly place nor allow my crew or passengers to put themselves in these situations. Oh, and PETER BROWN and PETER HAMMARSTEDT are PUTZES. But Shannon Mann is just dreamy. Peace, fools.

  • Anthony - 14 years ago

I equate Paul Watson to a person that would shoot an abortion doctor or fly a plane into an IRS office. He is nothing more than a thug on the water with no reguard for human life. We have laws but they do not apply to him. It's shameful how he puts his so called crew in danger. The sad thing is that we paid for him to be out there with our donations. It truly hurts to see someone take a cause and destroy it. It has cured me from donating.

  • Dennis - 14 years ago

I enjoy the show, Not since Gilligans Island had I laughed so hard... What a bunch of misfits! Now with the 2 new collisions I cant wait for the next season. I am amazed at the Japanese restraint. If it were me, I would arm my ships and shoot and kill these pirates that are endangering the lives of my crew.

  • Steve - 14 years ago

Thank You Mr Watson and crew, keep up the good work!!!

  • sushieater - 14 years ago

All you people that think of Paul Watson as a hero are seriously flawed in your thinking. Why do you say you are protecting the Earth's creatures but then ignore all the meat that is consumed around the world? Beef from Australia, Lamb from New Zealand is included. This makes you all hypocrites.
I would be against whaling if they were all endangered and proven so. But Japan has a quota that is not even reached contrary to what one poster here has said in support of SS trying to demonize the Japanese. Japan stays within it's limits set by the IWC and doesn't whale in anything but International waters which is not illegal. Maybe Animal Planet should have the other side of the story and if that's not your cup of tea maybe you should visit your local slaughterhouse and see how pretty it is. In addition there are no shortage of seals but the hunt for them was banned due to the cuteness factor. This blows the endangered argument out of the water. So get a clue Animal Planet and be fair about your reporting instead of going for cheap thrills and ratings.
And as far as Animal Planet airing Whale Wars goes, it is supporting terrorism by filming it and putting it on TV to show people that you can get away with bad behavior. Animal Planet I won't watch or even subscribe to cable TV because of idiots like yourselves that allow these posers to get any air time and all for your own profits. You are now considered yellow journalism in my books.

  • doughesson - 14 years ago

In my opinion, having been a USCG licensed mariner(Master 100 tons-Western Rivers,Grade D and Below Tankerman),Paul Watson is incompetent and has no business operating any vessel outside of a bathtub. The way he sends his crew out and leaves them in the cold when they could be relieved, the way he rams his own vessel into other ships, and the way that he plays around with the International Rules of the Road in order to claim "privileged vessel" status just supports that.
Others have commented on how he grandstands events beyond what happened and expels those who disagree with him.
It is a shame that Animal Planet shut down the Whale Wars discussion forum almost immediately after the collision between a Japanes ship and the MV Ady Gil.It makes me wonder if they were ordered to do so by Paul Watson under pain of losing the show or from their corporate lawyers who were afraid the show was too close to being biased.
    An explanation would be welcome.

  • Joe - 14 years ago

Paul Watson and his Sea Shepard society are heroic in their fight to save animals that the entire civilized world has agreed need protection from being hunted into extinction. Who are all these idiots that are standing up for a nation that has repeatedly ignored the international consensus against what they are doing? Anyone who is informed and has carefully considered this issue would certainly not be standing up for the Japanese. Yes, Paul Watson is a polarizing figure - many heroic individuals who have the courage to back up their convictions and the guts to not back down under the weight of opposition have tended to be polarizing figures. Many of them have also come to be regarded as heroes in retrospect.

  • Drover - 14 years ago

Paul Watson is a ecological terrorist and should be treated as such.
He and his organization fall into the same category as Al Queda, and the Taliban.

They should be persecuted to the fullest extent of International Law and tried as terrorists.

Should I ever see a Sea Shepard Society vessel, I shall treat them as I would pirates.

And we all know that it is socially acceptable to kill pirates.

  • Paul - 14 years ago

It was only a matter of time before someone in Watson's organization would be either injured or killed. Finally happened. The Ady Gil collided with a Japanese vessel, shearing off the bow, and injuring a crew member. I saw the video. There's wake coming astern of the Ady Gil, indicating the vessel is underway and moving FORWARD, toward the Japanese vessel, when the collision occurred. The skipper of the Ady Gil, and the skipper of the Japanese vessel should have exercised due diligence to avoid the collision. It could have been much worse.

  • Eric T. - 14 years ago

Oh Yea, I forgot , All the whales could be saved if the Japanese would harpoon ol' Paul! They could have enough blubber off of that fat tub of lard to supply the research for a long time! Where is the Japanese navy by the way?

  • Eric T. - 14 years ago

I love the episode where the Japanese "supposedly" fired at this nutty captain, you could tell the vest was shot before he put it on! I knew right then this show was baloney! I say if they try their little ramming trick or boarding again they should be shot or sent to Davy Jones' locker. This is no way to protest whaling, do it by legal means or don't do it at all! By the way concerning the Ady Gil, there is a little law of the sea called the Law of Tonnage which states that a smaller vessel is supposed to give the right of way to a larger vessel because the larger vessel cannot maneuver quickly enough to avoid collision, so good luck with your law suit I think your gonna need it!

  • Tim - 15 years ago

Paul Watson Hero? The thought of him being viewed as a hero is nauseating. He is nothing more than a PIRATE. He commands his crew to attack other vessels at sea PERIOD. Can anyone out there please remind me of the definition of assault & battery (look it up). Before anyone gets bent out of shape for simply stating the obvious; think logically. Regardless of whether or not you agree with the Japanese you can't honestly tell me that two wrongs make a right. Is that what you honestly believe? another question. If you see someone run over a animal in the street can you then ram the car and throw acid and other items in a effort to get them to pull over???? didn't think so. I'm not saying that i agree with the Japanese, but agreement is not required to obey the law. Last time i checked piracy was illegal. Personally i believe Paul Watson should be arrested the moment he docks, and put on trial for breaking international maritime law. The Japanese on the other hand are operating within the confines of the law for which they are required to under the penalty of fine and/or imprisonment.

  • MLB - 15 years ago

I've read most of the comments above, and I have seen more than a few episodes. My question to those who rant about Paul Watson and his crew is this (and yes, it is hypothetical) : You live on a small island, not in a big country where freedom is protected by *many* groups. You grow your own food, live a nice quiet life. But one day, some commission somewhere says, "Islanders have a few rights, so the only hunting that may be done, must be for research." Out of the blue, while you and your small, quiet family are watching the sunset; a band of hunters breach the treeline, and as you all race about trying to escape, your entire family is picked off one by one. Who speaks for your family? Who defends your right to live the life you were designed to live? Who protects you from the hunters you had no idea were coming to kill you?

I may sit on the sidelines and send money to various causes to help them do what they do best. I may not be on the front lines of the daily assault on our planet. But I do understand that when no one else will stand up and fight injustices, I must make myself heard.

In my opinion, (and to those who criticize me, YES it is an OPINION. Get a life already.) the Sea Shepherds are doing what no one else wants to do, is able to do, or cares enough to do. Watch even one whale get harpooned, listen to the anguish in the great animal's voice, and then think about who is standing between a helpless creature and the country that would butcher them.

Here is a thought a little more close to home... If you own (or care for) a dog, would you sit idly by while a recently emigrated Korean family walked in and butchered your dog for supper? It is natural in their culture to kill and eat cats and dogs. Does that mean you would let them eat Fluffy or Spot without trying to stop them? (...and people wonder why all my cats stay indoors. Culture is no excuse for cruelty.)

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Oh and another thing, the whole "research thing is a load of crap, you dont need to kill thousands of whales for research, and if it was research then why do they clean the meat and package it to be sold, right there on t.v.?? Think about it morons, they are scamming the system

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

What is the matter with all you people who are pissed at the fact that the Sea Shepherd is trying to save whales??? Do you like to hear about them being harpooned? And if they don't die right away, they get shot to death??? Have you ever watched it on t.v? have you seen the one where the japanese kill and harpoon a whale right in front of the camera crews and sea sheperd and then reel it in closer to the ship and shoot it? If you thought that was ok then there is something wrong with YOU, not Paul Watson or anybody else on board that ship. It's not the 1900's anymore, the japanese and everyone else who hunts the beautiful animals need to get a frickin job like the rest of the world instead of makin their money off killing animals. It's disgusting, and 83% percent of Japan have never even eaten whale and don't plan to, they would rather see them alive and FREE in the oceans like they should be, like anybody with a heart would like to see that as well. Did it not occur to any of you that whales can make babies, raise their babies, have emotions, have feelings, can feel pain, can feel joy and are very intelligent?? Hmmm, sounds alot like a human being. Well let somebody hunt you and your ancestors, you would be begging for someone to help, the whales are begging for help and Paul Watson will do anything to help them live out their lives and be happy and free. Do you know how amazing it would be to be on a ship and to have whales swim right up next to you? It would be absolutely breath taking and I would someday like to have tha happen to me but these a**holes are killing these beautiful animals because selfishness and greed oviously got the best of them. I will say this, Paul Watson is a damn hero and I would love to join that crew and stop those bastards from harming another whale ever again.

  • dave - 15 years ago

He is an arse with teeth like a can opener. Don't green peace provide a dental plan? I hate them all, they are so annoying like a bunch of worthless little spoiled brats. If I worked on that whaling ship I would drop a piano on one of those little zodiacs that buzz them. Or learn how to use a blow gun, and sink those Zodiacs. I never saw the sea shrimp win one battle, they are so lame. They should just give it up. Beside, the Japanese ship is doing research. How are you supposed to do research without killing the whales. They are killing the whales for their own good! You can tell that when the whales are put down they seem to know its for their own good, and seem so at peace. Anyone know how to apply for a job with those Japanese whalers? Foiling those weirdos and odd balls , and doing good by doing research would be a dream come true.

  • tatannia - 15 years ago

I believe extreme action is needed to save these whales. The mere fact they are claiming research slaps me as a biologist in the face. There are ways to colect samples without killing them. Its a complete lie and not even a good one. Holding up signs they are doing research when their whole purpose is to kill and process the meat for profit. I find the whalers need to be processed themselfs. As for Captian Watson and his actions, every one of his crew is there by their choice and in doing so holds the cause more important than their own lives. The whalers are also there by choice and they know about the dangers of the seas and chose to do what they do for the money. The only ones without choice is the whales that are being killed. I also find the Dutch and Australia goverments need to allow the sea shepherd more lattitude in stopping these killers for profit. The whalers has a lot of lattitue with their LRADS and water canons. And as far as their collision I blame the Japanese Whalers with their water canons by blocking visibility with a close vessel.
And for all of you who say just sit at home and get a job, well I say to all of you are cowards and are just sitting at home doing nothing for Gods great planet and allowing goverment to turn you all in to mindless drones.
Following blindly and mute laws that need to be changed and updated, as times have changed. And for the USA I see that blindless and mute following change not for the good. All drones. Everyone should be protecting these animals that are killed under false pretence. And I am sorry writting a letter these days seem to be doing nothing as far as these goverments are concerned.
The laws need to be changed where they can not profit from their kill and every bit of the dead whale stuided for complete research. And come on 900 whales die for specimen samples every year. BULL CRAP. This would all stop if the would change the international law where they could not profit from the meat. And where is thier scientific publlications on years of so called studies on these whales. I have found none on any of the science data bases. They are liers, the sole purpose is for the process of that whale meat for market and it should be baned.
If more people became involved in what was going on around them then we would have a better planet. Man destroys for either power or profit, and from what I see not much more than that. They build buildings and then abandon them for new buildings in a better location for profit. Destroying trees, animal life and any thing else in thier way. MONEY AND PROFIT, Destroying gods animals and planet. MAN has choices, not the animals or trees, only man.
ITS A SAD THING, AND THE LAW NEEDS TO BE CHANGED THAT THEY CAN NOT PROFIT FROM THIS SO CALLED RESEARCH.
I applaud the Sea Shepherds actions. The only Heros the whales really have.

  • Deirdre - 15 years ago

JGA: where does all your anger come from? Your argument acuses, each of your targets of being one-sided; interestingly, you only address, in turn, those who are against animal suffering as your targets for bullying. So you expect a balanced consideration of the issue for others, but it isn't necessary for you because...oh, you are special in your belief of having great power to inflict your anger onto others that you perceive to be less powerful. Do you feel like you win then?

Then you personalize your assaults toward the crew. So ones's appearance is somehow relevant and all must please your demands for appearance? You sound like someone who doesn't like himself, so looks for victims to abuse.

You also critique spelling, etc., when your missive is replete with typos and grammatical errors.

Conclusion: this argument is divided along a line of uneducated animal abuse proponents vs. educated, reasoned opponents. Those who are rational don't want to be among you abusers, and it doesn't matter how much of a big hammer you get out to clobber and bully others with. You can never win the moral argument.

  • JGA - 15 years ago

OH and Bo, It's DOOMED not domed you conehead.

  • JGA - 15 years ago

Lots of good reading here. Bo you just might want to consider putting a bullet in your head if in fact you believe that all humans do is cause damage to the planet, stop wasting my air. Humans are pathetic huh, WTF are you some sort of robot. I assume that by your comments you don't wear clothes and you live in the woods and your brief interlude with a television and computer was wasted on this crap. BTW its easy to be restrained when you have an undeserving sense of accomplishment and you think you are always right and everyone else is wrong.

Larry how are you the first to finally say it, destroy the meat and go get another whale to take its place, god knows there are whales abound. There is an abundance of minke whales out there just do the research. Like I said before I don't necessarily agree with whaling but its going to happen. It's not like they are out there killing 10k whales a year.

So Cal if I'm your boss even though you do your job willingly and you get hurt on account of my actions , guess what buddy; its on me. Its my fault not yours, you were just doing your job. Also, maybe not here in America but if you interfere with business in such a matter as to cause damage you have to ready for the consequenses good or bad, and I think that is why people would not mind seeing the shepherds hurt or sunk

Candace you said it, "stabbed your pet" implying ownership. Whales are not your pets. They have a quota so not all whales will die. Fin whale aside, they can whale the minke to their hearts content and cause no damage, what's their quota....750 a year. If you think that whaling is brutal why don't you sit and watch war footage and donate your time to injured vets.

KARLEEN COHEN, seriously NAZI Humans, grow up and read about the nazis before you compare them to whalers.

None of the volunteers on that ship including tubby tubbs and his bitch ass first mate are willing or ready to die for this. You can see it in their eyes and facial expressions. They were not prepared for this, physically or mentally. If you really want to see someone ready to die for a cause look in to an American soldiers eyes.

This is a great blog but if you read all responses it seems like the prowhale people have a closed mind. There is no happy medium and in a world like this you need compromise. OK I'm bored night yall, see you l8r.

  • Larry - 15 years ago

Sea Shepard and crew are no different that the pirates off the coast of Somalia. I wonder what the impact would have been IF either of the 2 ships involved in the collision had sunk? Sea Shepards says, "now those evil japanese know they mean real business" I don't see the Dutch allowing them to fly Dutch colors next yr, if, in fact, they are not in jail and try again. Am I missing something, Japan harpoons whale, SS makes whale unuseable, Japanese drop whale, harpoons another cycle will repeat...

  • Dennis - 15 years ago

Histerical! I love watching the show. Not since Gilligans Island and McHales Navy had I enjoyed such foolishness. I loved the final episode! Did you see Watsons face as he realized that the authorities were waiting for them at the dock! In the begining of watching I was apalled that the Japanese would take all the stuff from this guy. I would lock up his crew if they boarded my ship and released them to the authorities in Japan. I would also carry weapons and protect my crew and ship from the Sea Shepard.

It always amazes me that Watson thinks the Law only opplies to others and for them the end justifies the means. But then again look at our politicans!

  • PAMELA - 15 years ago

I find Paul Watson to be a hero. I am glad we have a group of people who are willing to stand up for whats right. The japanesse are killing the oceans when they hunt and eventually they will become extinct. The Japaneese arent going to just go away. When the world is closer to one more thing gone and the earths balance once again unsetteld by another loss, who do we call names then? It cant be Paul Watson by saving the whales he is saving so much more. Save the whales and if the Japs dont like dont do it...Im am for Paul and his crew and the Sea Shepard 100 %....

  • krista - 15 years ago

All the sea shepards are heros in my book, the japanese are strictly hunting these whales for profit not for research and anyone who actually believes that are nimrods.

  • John MacDonald - 15 years ago

The life of one whale is worth more than a million humans? Just what planet are you from? In last nights episode Watson could have killed everyone on board when he rammed the Ushin Maru. At first he thought and the crew thought that their mission was a success but after a damage asessment they realized that because of Watson's foolishness the Sea Sheperd had a pretty good sized hole in their bow and if the weather had turned bad there was a possibility that they might sink. It's just a matter of time before Watson ends up killing someone and I wonder how he is going to sleep at night. Even though these misfits willingly sign on why then were some of them scared, yes scared when they realized at how much danger they were in? They all have said that they had no problem giving their lives in order to save the whales but when it came down to the wire they got scared. They talk the talk but when it comes down to walking the walk it looks to me like some of them have a yellow streak right up the middle of their back. For those of you that think Watson is a hero and you support his stupidity, I suggest to you that you all get in line to sign up for this suicide mission. Put your money where your mouth is and don't forget to get things in order, i.e. life insurance, and please don't let me watch another episode where I see fear in your eyes. Before soldiers go to war they are trained but I don't see one bit of training here. In fact in one of the episodes they didn't even no how to launch the inflatables and it capsized. Why? Because there was absolutely no training and the first mate Peter had no idea as to what to do . And to think that he was second in command should Watson get killed or die. In fact when they got stuck in the ice he didn't even know how to steer out of it and he had one of the other crew members call Watson to the bridge as he was about to have a panic attack.

  • Bo - 15 years ago

The life of one whale is worth more than the life of a million humans! Has a whale ever hurt or endangered the planet Earth? No! Has a whale ever attack a species with the egotistical intent of extinction for its own benefit? No! Does a whale take more than it needs because it has a “God Given Right?” No! Is the population of your species threatening the extinction of all life on the planet? If you are a human, the answer is YES! Does your species deal in death for its main livelihood? Once again, if you are human, the answer is YES! Do you know that humans have enough weapons to destroy the entire planet Earth well over 1,000 times and would do so for some stupid ideology that is no more than a made-up fairytale? There is only one planet we can live on that I know of!

Paul Watson isn't an extremist. I am always surprised he is so restrained. I watch the program in disgust, thinking someone needs to stop Japan and all whaling nations now. I wish the Sea Shepherds could do more! Be glad Paul is so level headed!

Humans are so pathetic! All of the whining humans writing these complaints about the Sea Shepherds will NEVER do anything important in their whole life! They are domed to a worthless life of mediocrity. All you people think God will save you from your worthless lives. Well you are wrong! It isn’t saving the whales. Unless you find a HERO like Paul Watson to plead your case, you’re up the creek with out a paddle. I wouldn’t hold my breathe for some fairytale to come save you!

  • Jim - 15 years ago

Paul Watson is an IDIOT, it amazes me he finds other idiots to follow him. He values the life of a whale more than the life of his crew, all while he cowers in the background. I watch the show much like people have to look at a car wreck. His poor judgement and arrogance is just plane funny... Will the next episode be "jail wars" put him in with the jap whalers, that there would be funny!

  • So cal - 15 years ago

It's amazing to see all the Goofballs on this page.... people are complaining that Paul Watson is a "terrorist", that there "Pirates", and also refer to his disregard for the safety of his crew... (who actually do this willingly....) like George Carlin would say "spooky language"... but then to turn it around and say they hope to see these people die..., to the schmuck who brought up abortions, you make me laugh, it's people like you who give me comic relief, I bet you condoned what the lunatic in Kansas did to the abortion doctor, yes lets kill the Doctor who kills innocent babies, but wishing death upon those trying to save innocent whales, yes that I totally understand....

  • Blueheron20 - 15 years ago

I fully support the efforts of the Sea Shepherds and their captain. The world needs more people who are willing to put their a**es on the line in the name of environmental justice. Too bad the politicians of the world are too busy getting their pockets lined rather than protecting the planet that sustains us all.

  • John Finnean - 15 years ago

If the Japanese want a shooter to deal with these pirates I am their man give me a Barrett .50 and the Sea Sheppard Bridge will be empty they will all be hiding in the bilges. The sea Sheppard’s are criminals and should be treated as such. I watched hoping that the Japanese would have the guts to run down one of the inflatables.

    John

  • Delina - 15 years ago

The fact is, NOBODY is protecting our oceans. Captain Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherds would love nothing more than to NOT have to do what they do, but they are left with no choice. SOMEONE has to protect our oceans, our earth's most valuable ecosystem. Our oceans are dying, and if they die, we die with them. At that point any moot "opinions" won't matter. In fact, Sea Shepherd's clients are whales, seals, sharks, dolphins, and all forms of aquatic life who cannot speak for themselves, and personally THEY (the animals) don't care about your opinions. They just want to live, and they have just as much right to live on this planet as we do.

Make no mistake, Sea Shepherd has never broken the law, has never injured or killed anyone in 35 years, has never been sued. Why not? Because they are in pursuit of the REAL criminals. And real criminals aren't likely to take you to court for trying to stop them. The Japanese for example, are breaking the law, targeting endangered whales IN a whale sanctuary, in violation of a ban on commercial whaling. If the people who MADE that law were to enforce it, they might use similar methods to Sea Shepherd, stinkbombs, cellulose etc. The only difference is they might be even MORE effective because they would be government funded and as such have more funds at their disposal.

Sea Shepherd is run by passionate volunteers, many of them inexperienced, and must run solely on donations from the public. It is surprising and amazing to me that they accomplish so much with so little. You can tell they really care about the sentient creatures that inhabit our seas.

The Japanese say they are doing research... how is it that they have not published a single peer-reviewed report in 22 years? I would love to get my hands on some of their "findings" but can't seem to find any. Hmmm. Even the helicopter footage from above shows their methods of processing the whales. Marine biologists and actual researchers would be appalled by their methods, because they make no sense. They say they are weighing stomach contents, yet there is no scale aboard their deck. They don't even open the stomach. They just throw it in the ocean. This is all on tape. The first thing they do is slice up the whale meat into perfectly packaged little pieces they can fit in their storage freezers. Anything that isn't meat is thrown back into the ocean as waste. This is clearly NOT research!

The killing of these endangered whales potentially earns the Japanese almost a quarter of a billion dollars. By employing the non-violent means necessary to make their whaling job difficult, Sea Shepherd has saved the lives of many whales and will continue to do so until the government takes action and steps in to do the job they SHOULD be doing, and should have been doing all along. Either that or until the Japanese and other whalers stop doing so.

I support Sea Shepherd 100% and hope to see them succeed. With the publicity from Animal Planet and other forms of media attention, hopefully they will receive more donations and be able to thwart the illegal whalers once and for all.

  • Dear Mike - 15 years ago

Dear Mike, after reading your pathetic comments above, I truly noticed how sick you really are. Why don't you move to Japan and try working on one of the whaling fleets in your spare time? You watch Whale Wars and you take the time to go to the computer and type the longest message of anyone. You're sick, you need help, and your just as bad as the people that kill the whales. Don't bother responding to this message as I won't be reading your negativity. What do you stand for, eating potato chips? Oh no, sorry that's potatoes and you love whale meat.

  • KimD - 15 years ago

Everyone who is writing negative comments about Steve and his crew needs to WAKE UP.... this is our ocean, all of ours, and if we don't preserve and protect what God gave us, all in the name of GREED and power, then we will have nothing left to preserve. At least he/they are out there, standing up for what is right, standing up for what they believe in and they need our support to keep them going. You can call him extreme if you want but if you took away the fact that he goes out there day after day and they all risk their lives, who would be out there? The EXTREME japanese whaling fleets killing our whales that we need to be protecting. When you think of extreme, try thinking of the idiots who are making millions killing our beautiful whales. What do you stand for? Sitting at your computer criticizing people that are trying to do something good in the world? Good job Steve and crew; you have many many supporters, keep it up! Goodness will prevail!

  • WildBill - 15 years ago

I believe what Watson is doing is unfortunately a necessary evil. His tactics may seem extreme to us, sitting at home in our easy chairs. But he, as the rest of his crew, who are volunteers fully aware of the dangers at sea, especially on the Steve Irwin, are doing what must be done for those who cannot do it themselves. It is unfortunate that we, as humans, need to protect our seafaring friends (the whales) from our own race. We don't need to kill these whales, there is no reasonable reason to do so. Japan does so under the auspices of "research" despite being advised to use non-lethal methods by the IWC. Simply put, you do not need to kill whales to measure their population, stomach contents, migratory patterns, anything. ESPECIALLY IN A RECOGNIZED WHALE SANCTUARY. Seriously, WTF.
I feel that Steve Irwin would be moved had he been here to see the ship renamed in his honor. If you do some reading, you will see that he was investigating the possibility of joining them on one of their campaigns. He cared deeply for the state of our planet, and if we all cared a fraction of what he did, Watson wouldn't need to do what he does.
I am deeply sympathetic to the cause of the whales, and am glad Animal Planet decided to air Whale Wars. It certainly changed my point of view. I hope to be able to join him on a campaign someday.

  • Dianne - 15 years ago

To those labeling Paul Watson as mentally ill: are you mental health professionals, or just among the majority in our society who sit there in your armchairs and condemn those who are actually out there doing something to make the world a better place for all creatures?
Spare us your snide, mean-spirited hateful sarcasm. You want the Steve Irwin to sink and the Sea Shephards to die? You make the world an uglier place to live in, like the Japanese whalers operating under the illegal pretense of "Research." Maybe you should ask yourselves what you have done to improve the planet. To the person who actually admitted to eating whale meat - get a perspective. Do you not understand the problem and what humans have done to this planet?!
Because the whalers have no moral conscience, and are openly violating laws, they have to be dealt with radically. If it weren't for Paul and his crew, there would be no one fighting for these creatures - - to the whalers, that is tantamount to sanctioning and condoning what they are doing = hideously wrong.
Sea Shephards are HEROS and they will win the war.

  • Mike - 15 years ago

The final episode is coming up and I can hardly wait to see what happens to Captain? lard ass and his crew? These goof balls could not get a job anywhere else looking the way they do. What's up with the dred locks? C'mon who would hire them, that's why they volunteered to ship out on the SS Ship of Fools. At least they can get three squares a day and a place to lay their head at night.

How come Watson and his so called first mate aren't getting into the inflatables and going after the Japanese with stink bombs? The both of them talk about putting their lives on the line but I have yet to see either of them getting into the boats. Instead they send the dred locks to do their dirty work.

And what's up with the tears? I cannot believe it!!! They're whales for crying out loud. Would they shed tears for the millions of babies that are aborted each year? I doubt it. The Japanese have every right to defend themselves in whatever way possible. It's interesting that when the Japanese throw back nuts and bolts Captain Crunch says that they are going to defend themselves against being attacked. Who started the throwing in the first place? They are lucky that the Japanese are only throwing nuts and bolts.

There are so many different causes in the world that these morons could be fighting for, such as trying to stop the abortion clinics from their mass killings, but no... the whales are so much more important than human lives.

I always thought that vegans were pretty skinny people so how does Watson keep his "whale shape?" I bet he's sneeking a big rib eye every now and then and his foot locker is full of Snickers and other goodies.

And as his title of Captain why is it that he is locked in his stateroom most of the day? When he does come out and is on the bridge he doesn't know shit from shinola as to what the hell is going on. The crew is lost and has no idea as what to do next so he tells his first mate to do whatever the hell is necessary in order to throw more stink bombs on the Japanese. No matter how many of these stink bombs they throw, they are not going to stop them from whaling. I hope that the Japanese get even more powerfull water cannons and blow the crew of the Steve Irwin right off the deck.

For those of you that are supportive of what the Sea Shepards are doing and are complaining about no one doing anything positive, I suggest that YOU get off your dead ass and sign up for duty on THE SHIP OF FOOLS.

It's sad for me to say, but should there be a tragedy where the Steve Irwin is sunk and lives lost I certainly will not feel sorry for any of them. Afterall they did sign waivers stating that they would put their lives on the line then no one should shed a tear if any or all of them are killed.

I hope that the final episode ends with the Steve Irwin getting rammed by one of the Japanese vessels and is left drifting without any power and they have to suck up to being rescued by the Ushin Maru and are fed whale meat and rice.

  • Mark Spoon - 15 years ago

I can't see how anyone with even half a brain would call them extreme. I'd love to see them use that helicopter to bomb the jap ships. You can't be passive in a war... and as always with any such an issue, evil prevails when good men do nothing. Thank god someone's actualy doing something, don't sit on your ass and complain about his methods, get off your ass and do better, or shut up.

  • W. Whitaker aka Common Sense - 15 years ago

The United States government should add real drama to the show by sending in the Coast Guard to confiscate all illegal drugs aboard the Steve Irwin. Where does funding for this "dog and pony show" come from? I must say after reading some of the other comments; If ignorance is bliss, some of you must be extremely happy liberals.

  • jeff - 15 years ago

    forgive my typo Shepherds

  • jeff - 15 years ago

Let's rape the planet. Who will stop us? Hopefully someone like Paul Watson will.
We most certainly live on a drop traveling through a void. There is only so much, and when it's gone, it's gone.
We should be proud, all of us from every nation, of our cultural heritage. But face it; the world's cultures have changed significantly in the last century.
What may have once been say a social or nutritional need has now been revived as planetary wildlife exploitation for economic gain.
Make no mistake--if someone were acting crazy on your street, interfering with your life, disrupting your world, then I'm sure that you would take action. Some people would just move to a different neighborhood. That's okay, but what if the problem continues to grow and now invades your new neighborhood. It's a global thing...where are you going to move to anyway?
No one is uninvolved. Thank goodness that the Sea Shepards are able to raise the consciousness of those of us that care.
I will give you one fact: more than 80 percent of the people in Japan have never even tasted whale meat! Before any of us should talk more, we should get the facts.
I can tell that Paul Watson is without a doubt a founding person of Greenpeace in my book. That's because he defined the direction and intention of the organization when he was voted out because of his intensity.
Plain and simple--Paul Watson is one of my heroes.

  • DonnaG - 15 years ago

After watching Whale Wars last night and watching the devastating slaughter of that beautiful animal I am totally in awe of Capt. Paul Watson and his amazing crew of the Sea Shepherd. Anyone who condemns this heroic crew may as well go stick your heads in the sand and let the world be destroyed by insanity. Let's face it these whales are not being slaughtered because of research..it's bogus, these Japanese whalers are butchering these creatures right under our nose. They know it's against the international laws but they market themselves under "Research". I support Sea Shepherd in all ways and applaud the crew for all they do!!!!

  • palmtreesteve - 15 years ago

I wonder what Tubbsy-Ubbsy would do if the Japanese whalers tried to go aboard the Seastupid? I too am waiting for something to happen to the lame captain and his crew of hippie misfit lemmings!!

  • Candace Cooper - 15 years ago

I applaud and fully support the Sea shepard and its crew. Nothing has ever been accomplished by signing petitions in America and forwarding them to a foreign country. You stand by and watch while creatures are slaughtered. Tell me, if someone stabbed one of your pets, and then tried to sell it would you start a petition or have them prosecuted. The whales have no protection with no one to protect them this isnt an agenda against the japanese. Its about protecting whales, its about the INTERNATIONAL BAN on commercial whaling. They MURDER these whales. Anyone who condones the brutal tactics used to by the japanese is a sick individual.

  • WallyM - 15 years ago

Boycott the major Japanese car and electronics manufacturers. Stop buying their stuff and let them know why. I did my part. Keep in mind the Japanese are hunting in a whale sanctuary area against international treaties. We make plenty of good cars and electronics here in the US.

Captain Watson is a hero who knows to stand-up for what he believes in.

    Great job Sir!!!

  • john sherer - 15 years ago

Watson and his crew would be considered terrorists, if they weren't such a bunch of incompetent, whining, crybaby losers.

  • Robert - 15 years ago

    Just watched one.

The Japaneese killed and processed a whale right in front of the hippies and all they can do is cry.

When will these hippies understand that different cultures have rights too Japan is one of the oldest cultures in the world. I would love to see them go to China and Vietnam where they raise and eat dogs to try to stop the slaughter of the cute furries!. The Chineese and Vietnameese would not put up with this crap they would be thrown in jail, probably executed and the cost of the bullet mailed to thier family.

YOU GO JAPANEESE Whalers KICK PAUL'S ASS!

  • jj - 15 years ago

by the way, i hope animal planet can show also...how Idiot Sea Shepherd crews starve native americans here by stopping their whaling activities !

  • jj - 15 years ago

Mr. Watson and Sea Shepherd Crew are nuts! They attempt to disrupt the livelihood of other people and causing danger to crew of other vessels yet when those crews (japanese crews) tried to defend themselves they are surprised! what a group of imbeciles ! They are disgusted when the other crews would actually retaliate and might cause harm to them just to keep the pesky Sea Shepherd interfering with their private affairs. What are they expecting??? Japanese crews tossing cakes at them??? Morons !!! What's up with the Japanese vessels alone? Why don't they go after also of Norwegian whaling vessels and of other countries. Maybe they should stop also the native Americans hunting whales, so that everything will be fair.

  • Max, not a Japanese Whaler - 15 years ago

So apparently everyone that is against Paul are either Japanese or Whalers themselves. The idiots that keep saying throwing acid and prop fouling is "non-violent" don't seem to understand "words", definitely don't understand law. International law is by agreement, if a country agrees to not hunt whales they won't but if they don't they can hunt them all they want. The "moratorium" is voluntary and so is the scientific research, that is why the quota is set by each individual country. The UN or the US or Australia or whoever has no right to stop the Japanese from hunting whales short of declaring war. The only reason the Japanese don't harpoon those idiots is that Japan has no right to sink a Dutch ship, the Steve Erwin is registered as a Dutch ship.

I keep waiting for the Japanese to just harpoon them but sadly they follow international laws so the most we will get is defensive non-violent action from the Japanese. At most they can keep luring a completely inexperienced crew into ice and hoping they will sink. The Japanese of course will rescue them and look like heroes. Sorry, WILL be heroes.

  • Gina - 15 years ago

I can not believe how many people disagree with the actions of the crew and captain. So many people support the war in Iraq but do not support protecting such beautiful creatures in the oceans. Humans are destroying this whole Earth and could care less. These poor animals were here before us and should be given the rights to live happily and without the worry of becoming food for humans. This whole "Research" is disgusting and I cant believe why anyone would want to kill something so fantastic. Shame on all you people for thinking this is ok. These animals should be around for years to come but do to ignorance they will not be here unless someone stands up for them, which is what this show is all about.

  • John - 15 years ago

If Mr. Watson spent the money he has put towards the Sea Shepherd and its activities into government lobbying and a negative publicity campaign against the whaling industry would he possibly save more whales? I wonder.

  • KAREN - 15 years ago

WHY WOULD ANY OF YOU BE AGAINST PAUL WATSON. YOUR JUST AS BAD AS THE JAPANESE. THE GUY IS A HERO! HE LETS HIS CREW KNOW BEFORE THEY VOLUNTEER, WHAT THEY ARE IN FOR AN THAT IS TO DO WHAT EVER POSSIBLE TO SAVE THE WHALES. HOW COULD SOME OF U SAY THAT HE IS AN EXTREMIST? U MUST BE FROM JAPAN! THAT HAS GOT TO BE THE ONLY REASON.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK SEA SHEPHERD, IGNORE THESE BOZO'S...THANK YOU ANIMAL PLANET!!

  • Jack - 15 years ago

I find it extraordinary, truly, that any human being brought up properly could call Watson the extremist while watching whales go up the slip on an illegal whaling vessel inside a whale sanctuary.

Anyone who defends this position with the "blatant disregard for human life" angle is a humanist more than anything else and has not evolved yet to the point where they understand that no whales = no humans.

This planet works under a set of hard, unbreakable rules. The rule of nature. We are taking everything way out of balance and the whale massacre is just a canary in the mine shaft.

To watch both parties and decide that Sea Shepherd is the criminal, the danger to our world and others, makes me think far less of people in Greenpeace than I ever have before.

And yes, I too used to work for Greenpeace and raised a ton of money for them in the DC office long ago. Before I learned I was behind a group that cares more about people than who they are paid to represent.

Donations to Greenpeace would be better spent on Habitat for Humanity.

Paul Watson is an extreme hero.

  • Cait - 15 years ago

paul watson is a douchebag moron. save the whales, but not at the expense of human lives. except maybe him. if he really wanted to save the whales, he'd be trying to change the loophole laws that allow whaling to be profitable instead of being an a**hole.

  • KARLEEN COHEN - 15 years ago

I wish the Sea Shepard had even more severe tactic measures. The whales are losing the battle to the most murderous, unethical torturous humans. No we will not sit back at let Nazi humans rule the world right into a polluted earth, and sentient being killers. I love Watson and his angel crew for putting their lives on the line.I wish I was as brave as they are.
    TRUE FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Moby D - 15 years ago

Wow, what a total nut job. Paul Watson is nothing but a over-stuffed, bloated extremists. He better hope he never falls in the the water, because sure as hell, those japanese harpoonist will mistake him for a big ole fat whale!! I never thought I would be rooting for the "bad guys", but after watching the illegal actions of Paul "I've never missed a meal" Watson it makes the whalers look like heroes.

  • John - 15 years ago

I can not wait untill the retard captain and his simpletons are sunk. I used get mad watching this show until I realized the whole crew were idiots! Now I pour a nice glass of whiskey and laugh! Seriously though, I hope they sink. I still do not whant any of them hurt, but, sink, sink, sink!

  • JGA - 15 years ago

How are their actions justified and the whalers aren't. How can you be so narrow minded that you only see the cause they are behind and not the damage that they cause. What if, again I came to your house and kept you from going to work, is that legal? I doubt it! I don't care how ignorant you sound you have to have enough common sense to see that they are taking the wrong measures to do this. As far as I'm concerned the Japanese can harpoon their hull and sink their operation and it would be justified. Eventually this will go to eye for an eye and the so called shepherds will lose. BTW what is wrong with supporting aquariums? We as humans individual, or soceity learn alot from aquariums and the fish and or mammals kept there. Not to mention your level of intelligence, but to whale illegally you have to exceed that quota. If you meet that quota you are not doing anything wrong. You are not speeding until you speed. You're probably so blinded by the cause that you don't understand what illegal is. They are pretty much running a para-military group and the consequences are going to get worse. Please learn how to spell SHEPHERD as this is the group you are trying to defend.

  • cathrine - 15 years ago

i applaud the efforts of the seashepard and i beleive that he is trying to save the whales and not blowing up abortion clinics. he is trying to interfere with the process of whaling without hurting anyone. i say blow these whale killers off the planet into a million people then people will get the picture. how about kill a scientist for every whale seen strung up dead to the side of the boat. greed is all it comes down too and i curse each one of the heathens.

  • beowulf - 15 years ago

The Japanese Whalers are whaling illegally! They missed the 2008-2009 quota they had by 500 whales because the Sea Shepard and Capt Pau Watson were successful in stoping that many kills by their constant harrasment of the Japanese Whaling fleet.

They are involved in direct action, but non-violent actions. The same can't be said for the Japanese , who have used tactics such as ramming the smaller Steve Irwin ship, hurling heavy brass nuts and bolts at the Steve Irwin crew, and using the accousitc weapons against them

JGA's suggestion about supporting local aquariums really shows where his/her head is at. They are supporting captivation of wonderful mammals!

I for one am sending a nice contribution to the Sea Shepards, and will continue to watch Whale Wars every friday

  • JGA - 15 years ago

Oh boy, I just wish I could put Deby, Cathy and Wulf man in a boat so I can harpoon the three of you; MORONS. He didn't save any whales, if there is a quota that quota will be filled. He just postponed it. I don't agree with illegal whaling or poaching or unnecessary killing. As long as the Japanese are whaling within the law there is nothing we(me or you) can do about it.

Someone on that show will die and as sad as that is I can't wait to say "I told you so." This crews actions are irresponsible and it makes us as Americans look like a bunch of idiots. For the three aforementioned, how bout I come to your house and throw acid on your house and cars, hell while I'm at it your kids and see how you like it. Maybe I'll ram your car while you transport them to school, just because you bought a Prius and prolonged nickel mining. But all that is OK because these are all non-violent ways to protest something.

There time would be better spent volunteering at the local aquarium instead of polluting the national airwaves and oceans.

  • Catherine - 15 years ago

Just reading all of the anti Whale War comments make me sick. So negative and accusatory, name calling...and so easy for all of you people to do. But did any of you offer up a solution to the out of control issue of illegal whaling?? And tell me this....what defense do those whales have against these brutal killings? That is the hard part isnt' it....coming up with a solution? That is what Paul Watson is all about and that is what he is doing. Give the man the respect that he deserves. At least he is doing something about an issue that he has a passion for. And the volunteers that are on the Sea Sheppard with him are just that....WILLING VOLUNTEERS. They are not forced to board that ship....and I am sure they know the risks involved way before they leave home to join up with this cause. If someone gets hurt or worse is it Mr Watson's fault? Are you kidding.??? Is it the militarys fault if you die in battle when you willingly joined the military knowing that war sometimes goes along with that choice?? I am a fan of Whale Wars. I am a bigger fan of Mr. Paul Watson and the crew of the Sea Sheppard. Thank you for being so brave...for your courage....for helping a cause that I truly believe in. You are an amazing bunch of people and my family watches you every Friday night cheering you on right from our living room couch and feeling like we are right out there fighting this cause with you. Thank you for all you are doing.

  • Beowulf - 15 years ago

The Sea Shepard tactics under Paul Watsons leadership has been successful in saving an estimated 500 whales. Whales are magnificent creatures, of high intelligence and are an endangered species.

Mr Watsons tactics are very effective against a monstrous Whalers empire, run by the Imperial throw- back of Japanese society.

I suspect that many of the negative comments are generated by Whalers

  • Pedro Valdez - 15 years ago

Its 1 AM and after watching this program I was so upset that this man is allowed to go free. He is an eco-terrorist.

There is no difference between what he does and someone burning down an apartment complex or destroying a car lot full of hummers.

Anyone whom feels his actions are justified aren't completely retarded and don't deserve to share my air.

  • Cindy Graham - 15 years ago

Paul Watson is a super HERO! Anyone that thinks differently is a lazy slug! To devote your life to saving a species from slaughter is the most unselfish thing a human can do! BRAVO Paul -- carry on!!!

  • DW - 15 years ago

This show serves as an excellent "how not to" primer on ship and small boat handling. Sooner or later these rank amateurs will succeed in killing one of their own through sheer incompetence. I watch the show for the comic relief these terrorist/idiots provide.

  • leif - 15 years ago

I can't believe animal planet put this on tv.These people are terrorists! Would Americia put up with these tactics if they did this to our crab fishermen? I would hope not! What if they disabled the boat and it sank, killing innocent people? The whalers don't do this for fun, it is thier living! if you peolpe don't like it, pay the whalers money so they don't have to fish. put up or SHUT THE HELL UP !!!!!

  • Stray - 15 years ago

Like most other whiny, cry-baby, sissies that pollute the U.S. today (PETA, Anti-abortionists, religious fanatics, tobacco nazis, etc.) Capt. Paul takes the cake. I was never a fan of Greenpeace either, but it speaks volumes when they found it necessary to throw him out!

  • Jim - 15 years ago

Paul Watson is a lazy "I don't want to work a real job" bone head. I can't believe that the meatballs on the ship with him actually think this guy is doing any good. He takes rich people's donations and rides around the Antartic for months on end. This is just a excuse for a chubby, lazy, old white haired guy not to have to work a day in his life. GET A JOB. Why aren't they trying to stop the crab fishing that goes on...are the crab not as important as a whale. People need to stop feeding this guy's ego, you never see him jumping into one of those tiny boats risking his life, obviously the Japanese are still killing whales or else they wouldn't be out there. Its just a fish, we as people all over this world eat fish every day....give it up and get a job. I am sure with all your talent Mr. Watson, you could be greeter at Walmart.

  • Navy Veteran - 15 years ago

These guys are a joke, Im surprised that no one has been killed yet. They're just a bunch of hippies with a boat. Im against hunting for sport, but who are these idiots to contradict hundreds of years of whaling tradition, in which the animal provides food for the indigenous population? I dont get it, do the Japanese whalers exceed the legal sustainable quota? If not, how is what they are doing illegal?

  • Deborah - 15 years ago

Oh yes, yes I can truly see how chaining yourself to a tree in protest is a much more affective task...
The police cut the chains, remove you and STILL cut down the tree and many more as well!!!

I whole-heartedly support all efforts of the "Steve Irwin", its members and crew and hope that they will someday receive the funding and support they need to affectively stop the Japanese whalers...

    HEROES!!!!

  • Stac - 15 years ago

This show cracks me up! This guy wins the psyco award of the year. Get your own fat ass in the harms way every time. Get a real captains liscence (one not from Kmart). Save the other creatures from this fool. Go clean up the PLASTIC out of the ocean. What kind of car does this idiot try to drive? Does it get 10 mpg? This miserable jerk needs a swift kick in the ass, no-one will step in untill it is too late. He is our own illegal research project. Somebody please take him off that ship. My seawater is now more contaminated by him, than before. Here's a sign... go volunteer to clean up your own toxic footprint.

  • Deborah - 15 years ago

Im just wondering, why is everyone who is complaining about Paul Watson and the "Whale Wars' show isn't getting up off their ass to do something to stop this travesty?
Im not hearing anyone of you talking about the 'effective' things you are doing to 'save the whales'? You sit on your couches and complain about his efforts, yet not one of you have effectively stopped any of these ships from depleting the whale population.
The whale population is drastically low these days. Shall Paul and the crew just sit around on forums and discuss what should or should not be done all day or shall they take action?
Everyone who is on the show is a volunteer, they all chose to sign a waiver stating that their actions could result in injury or death. You can choose to blame the captain all day but these active adults seem to understand what they are doing upon signing.
You may not approve but some seem to think giving their own lives for another(whales) is a worthy cause. Whether you want to admit it or not, at the end of the day they are educated adults who are capable of making their own decisions.
I think what the japanese are doing is absolutely absurd, pasting "RESEARCH' on the side of their boats so they can continue to whale year around!
The Average Lengthof a whale is 12.5 - 20 ft and the Average Weight of a whale is 1.8 - 3.5 tons, how much whale do you think the japanese needs to complete their research??? Most companies can complete numerous research studies on just ounces of flesh, yet the whalers continue to poach year around and in all regions of waters. Please explain how anyone can justify this???
Are you seriously thinking they cannot obtain the amount of whale flesh neede for study during the regular whaling season???
They should be obligated by all rules of whaling, regardless of where they are from and what their uses are going to be. This false pretense of 'RESEARCH' is fooling no one but the idiotic governments. Im appauled that anyones government would allow this to continue!
I applaud Paul Watson and his crew for standing up and doing something about it! I wish more people would do so instead of sitting around passing judgement on efforts they are not even partaking in...
Im sure Paul Watson and all other would be glad to stand back and watch if someone else came up with a more effective plan and would attempt to enforce it...
Otherwise everyone could all just sit back and wait for these, as well as many other animals to become extinct. I see how that would be effective(satrcasm)...
To Animal Planet, I love this show and the fact that there are people out there trying to make something happen. I watch this show religiously with a bit of humor and alot of admiration! Thank You!

  • Josh - 15 years ago

I just saw Whale Wars for the first time. I'm not for whaling and I agree with taking frontline action, however, if you stir the pot, expect resistance. The Shepard Crew started complaining when the crew of a Japanese vessel threw objects at them. They think they should respond with non-violent action, i.e. water cannons. They're on the open seas... They're luckly they don't have an RPG fired at them. If I was a whaler and someone started throwing something at me or tried to destroy my props, I would do more than throw things at them. If you can't handle the war you started, stop warring.... Non-violent war.... are you kidding me.... maybe in the court of law that will fly... but your in international waters where there is no real jurisdiction... even if you wanted to tattle-tell who are you going to tell, the pro-whaling Japanese?

I agree that Watson and the others are pirates and terrorists but they are ridiculously funny. I have to admit that I watch it when it's on. I spend the whole hour laughing and shaking my head. These are grown men and women throwing stink bombs at enormous ships and acting like they are at war. Next they may go to Japan, ring some doorbells and run. The dialogue between the crew is funny to. The Japanese show more restraint than I ever could but when they turn to non-lethal crowd control devices (acoustic devices). The crew keeps saying the Japanese are "turning up the violence". I was never in favor of Whaling but after watching this program I have sympathy for the Japanese.

The sea shepherds would be in the right if there were a total ban on whaling.
What the Japanese and other whaling nations are doing is no more different that when I hunt deer within the season allowed by law and then leave them alone during the off season.
Which of the sea shepherds is an accredited law enforcement officer? What nation issued them a Letter of Marque allowing them to act to enforce portions of the whaling conventions pass into international law?
All I see when I watch this show is a bunch of seagoing vigilantes who don't care about the damage that they cause or the potential for loss of life if someones slips on a puddle of butyric acid and falls overboard in the Anarctic waters.

Well first off, Do I agree with the killing of whales? .. No not at all. I feel the whales should be protected so they don't become extinct. The loop hole should be closed, and the fact that the Japaneese ships with RESEARCH" painted on their side are not out there purely for research. I feel if they truely are there strictly for research they should not be selling the "leftovers" from their research. if anything give the meat away to the starving people of this world.

Next thing. Do I agree with the Sea Shepards use of pirate like tatics?... Hell No!!! The illegal boarding, harassment, vandalism and property destruction of property is flat out wrong. I would like to see somone go and pelt Captain, and I use that term loosely, Watson's home with buteric acid, ram their car into his, and enter his home without permission, then hear him cry and whine that they did thing illegal, where in theory he is doing the same things at sea. As a Retired USCG member I can say that I am pretty sure all of the things he is doing are pretty much illegal. However there would be a question of whose jurisdiction he would fall under. That is something for the courts to decide.
Capt. Watson if anything should be at the most taking pictures and "collecting evidence" to pass on to the proper authorities. You Capt. Watson are not the proper law enforcement authority to be enforcing the laws. That 20 cent "badge" you wear doesn't give you the authority to enforce the laws through the use of vandalism, breaking and entering, and harassment. If it does I want everyone to go out abd buy ine then if you see Paul Watson speeding put your badge on and throw acid on his car, harass him while driving and ram your car in to his. Then let's see how long it takes him to file charges with the REAL law enforcement authorities.
At the very least he should not be commanding a row boat, much less a ship the size of the Steve Irwin. and his "first mate" doesn't know how to steer a course based on a nautial heading, and doesn't know how to read an ice chart, but yet he is "second in command" of a ship that routinely operates in the Antartic. He even says he isn't "book learned". He knows squat about being a first mate. If anything he knows enough to clean the head on the ship. That is the bathroom Peter, just in case you didn't know.
In summary. I feel that if it was made illegal for the Japaneese to sell the whale meat, the whaling would stop, unless they were truly interested in the "research". and The Sea Shepards are strictly an enviromental terrorist group, no questions about it in my mind. They should ALL be arrested and prosecuted. They are obviously breaking the maritime laws.

I'm with those who oppose this eco-terrorist and his merry band of misfits. I was watching an episode of Whale Wars earlier today where the Steve Irwin (Lord, how poor Steve must be spinning in his grave for having his name exploited by terrorists) encountered a Japanese research vessel searching for a missing crew member believed to have fallen overboard and El Capitan was debating whether they should commit to an attack. I had to turn it off in disgust so I didn't actually see whether they went forward with it, but the simple fact that he would even CONSIDER harassing a vessel engaged in a search and rescue operation made me sick.

The man is a nutcase with a Napoleon complex and he needs to be stopped. His actions are ILLEGAL. He has no authority to harass - let alone BOARD - foreign vessels. The Japanese "whalers" that he claims are illegally killing whales are well within their rights. They may be exploiting a loophole in the law, but they're not breaking it. If Mr. Watson wants to end their harvest then he'd be better served petitioning for the loophole to be closed rather than throwing acid bombs and illegally boarding foreign vessels in international waters.

It disgusts me that Animal Planet would seem to condone his actions. The last thing a self-righteous ego-maniac like him needs is a spotlight to stand in.

I have written to my senator asking why the U.S. Justice Department is selectively enforcing laws and demanding that they charge Discovery Communications with material support for terrorists just like they prosecuted those muslim charities. It is exactly the same situation and DC is supporting international piracy.

When Paul sinks his ship with his band of idiots with him, hopefully, the AP crew is not on board.

The best part of the show is watching the sanctimonious crew become disenchanted at their "mission" as they realize they are led by a bunch of buffoons. The crew is so incompetent that it is off the charts on the unintentional comedy scale. Peter Brown lacks a discernible skill of any kind and he is the first mate. To me the show is no longer about whaling but a "reality" show about a bunch of morons. I am appalled that Discovery is broadcasting this form of terrorism.

An absolute supporter(and do so through monetary donations too) for the absolutely necessary intervention with thugs/industries on the highseas killing whales and other marine mammals. KICK ASS Paul Watson- you are a true hero and you are supported. Save the whales!! What is wrong with Man"kind" that we exploit and dominate others for greed and just plain evil.
TOTALLY SUPPORT YOU. YOU ARE A HERO.
Now, my concern: train each crew better and Peter Brown comes across appears to have limited ability in the tasks of the ship, and seems to run-off crews. Sorry Peter, but that is how you come across on the show.

This is without a doubt, the most ridiculous show on television today. Paul Watson and his group of incompetent misfits endanger not only japanese mariner lives, but also the lives of the search and rescue teams that will no doubt play a role in saving this group of idiots. The only part I find intriguing is the fact that at the first sign of repercussion, the "sea shepherds" cry FOUL!!!! Give me a freakin break, you reap what you sow my friends. As for you Peter Brown, it is in your best interest to never encounter me in person. This show alone is the reason I just renewed my membership to the NRA. God Bless America and the Brave Soldiers who fight to keep our country free!!!

WHO ELSE IS GOING TO POLICE THE OPEN SEAS?? Do you people want the whales to go extinct?? Do you understand what will happen if they are gone?? Seriously buddy... someone has to do it... His concern is for the whales btw.....

"There's nothing wrong with being a terrorist, as long as you win." Paul Watson said this when interviewed. That's exactly what he is!!!! Shame on Animal Planet for giving so much credit to a feeble minded, pathetic, mentally ill individual. Even normal tree huggers do things more rationally than Paul Watson. I sincerely believe in protecting the endangered wild life of this planet, however Paul Watson has turned protecting a beautiful creature into some Japanese manhunt. Some of you fans may want to visit the website and see his "sympathetic" commentary of a Japanese man who lost his life aboard a whaling vessel. It was nothing but demeaning and belittling, not to mention insulting to the victims family. To their devoted "fan club", I assume you'll stay a fan of eco terrorism, until the day he boards your vessel of belief with no concern for a life other than his own.

That asshole jeopardizes the lives of three people and a crew to satisfy his massive ego. The crew couldnt even get the Delta in the water and he let them go to get lost.
No whale is worth lives. Someone ought to stick a harpoon in his whale ass!

While the Japanese slaughter of these animals is a shame and likely a crime, Watson is the high seas version of Jim Jones. He carelessly and shamelessly uses a rag-tag and quite naive band of followers to fulfill his megalomania. Anyone who has seen more than 30 minutes of the show realizes he would not have the slightest problem sacrificing crew mates for the cause.

I just watched the ice episode and assume they somehow made it out alive; watching half-inch steel bend and flex like tin foil 1000 miles from the nearest rescue patrol leaves one agape over their tremendous luck.

Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character. So yes, Paul Watson and every single person risking his life to save these intelligent species are HEROES.

Thanks to Animal Planet for highlighting this whale-terrorisme of the Japan. The awful wrongs and sufferings forced upon the innocent, helpless, faithful animal race form the blackest chapter in the whole world's history.

I hope to make people realize how totally helpless animals are, how dependent on us, trusting as a child must that we will be kind and take care of their needs ...[they] are an obligation put on us, a responsibility we have no right to neglect, nor to violate by cruelty.

I'm very happy to have people like Watson who take the responsibility to protect these whales! Being in the field for 30 years without making any victims I a great achievement. Hope the series will be an inspiration to many of us.
