Thanks to you and the Everett Herald for yorr great coverage of local HS sports.
I agree that Jackson has a lot more skill players player than they did in their last playoff run. What people don't realise is that Jackson had a really good offensive line blocking for Kirton.
I think Jackson makes it past the first round, but wonder if they have the talent depth to go much farther. They have some talented skill players but are pretty light up front and don't have a lot dominant big kids. Too many of their top players go both ways.
Jackson really struggles defensively.
In HS football you have to do one of two things on the defensive side of the ball to be effective. Do one thing, and do it perfectly (Edonds Woodway, Lewis and Clark). Or be able to mix it up and attack, the way Bothell, Skyline, and Woodinville do. They mix it up and frustrate an offense, they make bid plays and blow up drives.
Watching Jackson over the years they seem to change their defense weekly. They never attack, they never mix it up. They play catch. That strategy is not usually effective in playoff football.
I'm not sure we'll see a WESCO team in the final eight, I hope so.
Thank Mike!

Rudy, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I didn't cover the Jackson vs. E-W game but it sounds like it was a classic. What a great performance by Carr. ... I'm interested to see how Jackson does in the playoffs. This is clearly the most talented T-wolves group since fall 2003, Johnie Kirton's senior season. But I get the sense that this Jackson team might be better overall because it has more playmakers and a pretty balanced offense.

The Jackson / Woodway game decided the WESCO South this year. It was a back and forth game with a lot of hard hitting and excitng plays.
Jackson could have easily folded tent with out their star back Taylor Cox.
The winning drive with time running out was a feat of sheer will and courage. Riley Carr was running at QB in the Wildcat formation. There wasn't a player, coach or fan that didn't know Carr would be carrying the ball. What did he do? On three plays from around the EW 38 yard line he ran over the EW defense, one of the best in the state. On the last play he "trucked" the 2007 Gatorade Player of the Year, Tony Heard and ran through four other players to score the winning touchdown. It was one of the best performances I have seen. It won the game and won the WESCO South for Jackson.
Carr may not receive the recognition that other WESCO players recieve but in my mind he is the 2008 league MVP. The kid is a load and that was the most important and exciting game in WESCO this year.

Thanks for commenting "harry." At the end of your comment you wrote: "If you write it, I'll read it." Have you somehow missed all that we've done so far? We've already published a huge amount of stories about the Marysville-Pilchuck football team this fall: We wrote a preseason profile of Levi Cartas. We covered Tomahawks games against Snohomish, Arlington and Lake Stevens. We wrote a feature about fullback Austin Denton and the team's powerful offensive linemen. We published two lengthy stories about 100 years of prep football in Marysville. On our Web site we posted the results of every football season in Marysville/Pilchuck/M-P history. ... That's more coverage than we've given to any other prep team this fall, and it's more than any other paper has produced. ... We'll have a writer at M-P's playoff game this weekend. Hopefully you don't miss that story. It will be in print and on our Web site, as usual.

Hey Mike, How come I have to read the Seattle Times just to get any kine of story about MP'S awesome football season?
Do your kids go to Lake Stevens or Snohomish?
All year long you have under reported the Tommies and touted every team they defeated. At the Lake Stevens blowout you could only comment on the size of the crowd, you should let somebody else write a football story if you can't or won't. If you write it, I'll read it.
