Funny, not a week after I signed up, out of the blue my mom gave me a rails to trails T-shirt. She asked me if I'd ever heard of the organization. Of course! I'd just signed up for the on line news letter!
We have a RtR trail nearby, and another beautiful trail on an abandoned line built by the state. We walk with a few friends (and our many dogs) on the RtR sponsored trail every weekend.
When I was young I wanted to work on a railroad. I recognized that they passed through the more interesting and beautiful terrain than roads do. It's sad to see such an efficient mode of transportation declining as it has been. But the mixed blessing is I can now walk through that interesting and beautiful terrain.
