Why would you put it anywhere else?

Why would anybody go to city hall to see this statue? Put this statue where people who still care about Brockton and who know who Rocky was. Theres no safe pedesterian traffic near or around the center of Brockton.

Those who attend BHS events and Rox games have an invested interest with Brockton. Let those who care who Rocky was be safe to enjoy this memorial without having to worry about the trash, crack heads, and the people who could care less about who he was or even want to know some of the history this city has to offer.

I think the statue should be put where many children, highschoolers, and adults can see it. The Marciano Stadium/Rox Stadium area is a great location. Who's goes to city hall? Downtown will never be like it was. There is nothing that attracts families to go down there anymore. It should NOT be put at city hall just fo their employees to look at. If it is placed up near the Brockton High School area, many Brockton people as well as out of towners will be able to enjoy it. There is a lot going on up in that area so it will certainly be a safe place and looked at by many. Since the Marciano Stadium was named after "Rocky", it would be fitting to place the statue of him there.

The statue honoring Rocky belongs on the campus of Brockton High School. The reasons supporting my opinion and that of thousands of others are in constant discussion throughout Brockton. The more discussion, the better. Brocktonians are excited about this incredible opportunity. In short, the statue would receive maximum exposure at the high school. The World Boxing Council (WBC) initially chose Boston for Rocky's statue because of the thousands of visitors that would see it. We thank the WBC and Boston Mayor Menino for agreeing that the statue belongs in Rocky's hometown. It will be a fitting tribute to Rocky and his family. Thousands of visitors will see it at the High School, as well. A short history on the Grand Army of the Republic Park (G.A.R. Park) across from City Hall:
Upon returning to North Bridgewater (Pre-Brockton) Civil War veterans decided to construct a building in which they could gather and also to honor those who were killed and never returned home. They named it " The Grand Army of the Republic Building." It stood on that site for approximately 80 years and was destroyed by fire. The lot remained vacant for years. In 1977,the late Mayor David E. Crosby, with a federal grant began to brighten up the downtown area. After the fire destroyed the GAR building, a room in City Hall was designated as the G.A.R. Room. It is used today as a meeting room. The room was filled with artifacts from the war, but were slowly disappearing. Mayor Crosby decided to honor the Civil War Veterans and their families with a park to honor their service to country. With the money from the federel grant, G.A.R. Park was created and officially dedicated in 1977.
G.A.R. Park should be left as a Civil War memorial. Any other use of the park will be an injustice to the families of Civil War veterans.

Why not Legion Parkway? There were many parades for Rocky that went down Main St. to Legion Parkway. I think more people would see the statue there than at City Hall. Just my thoughts.

Why would downtown even be considered? It seems to me that even a 5YO could figure out that the ONLY fitting location for the statue is the Marciano Stadium. This should not even be an issue. Anyone that feels that it belongs in our "beautiful" downtown area should really seek some kind of personal assistance. Focus your energy where it is needed. Put Rocky where he belongs! BHS Marciano Stadium!
It seems that some of our city workers appear to have too much time on their hands. I have a further suggestion.... how about you spend your excess time and energy dealing with much more important issues, such as the number of people in our lovely town walking our lovely streets at all hours armed with guns and dealing drugs. (Amoung many areas, near City Hall!) I get it Rocky will stop them!
Respectfully yours,

Rocky belongs at the high school. I practiced and competed for Brockton High in three sports in the 80's. It would have been incredible to to do that with Rocky watching and inspiring us and our competitors.
What if the city takes some of the $250,000 grant to put up a civil war memorial (a statue?) at G.A.R. Park.? That's another rare opportunity and seems approriate too.
Thanks Councilor Petti for telling us the hisitory of that lot.
G.A.R. Park is hard to find (try driving there with kids or from being out of town!), hard to view and just isn't appropriate.
Putting the Rocky statue downtown would be Brockton's version of the children's Waldo game "Find Rocky"
The Rocky statue belongs at BHS.

I think that with all of the publicity that Brockton High School itself induces, there are few, if any, better places to display this statue. The esteem and pride that this monument will radiate will be an asset to not only the students of the high school, but to the members of the community that frequently visit the campus for a variety of activites. The sheer size and magnitude of the statue will only be complimented by the state of the art baseball field and football field also housed on the Brockton High School campus. Also, with its own police department, the statue has much less of a chance of being vandalized on campus, rather than a park that is flanked with tall buildings and a parking garage. Though the condition of the park has improved a great deal, is a place for rememberance. Many in the community visit the park for solace and reflection and relate that space to the rememberance of veterans. Maybe not the best place for a statue of this scale. I hope that the powers at be see that while the park is a beautiful place to visit, the purpose of the statue would be best suited at the Brockton High School campus. Go Boxers!
