i've actually been leaving my phone on 'silent' a lot these days due to calls from creditors (failed business venture). this is usually my motivation for turning it off as well.

I turn on "flight mode" when in theatres and such. The device is still active and everything is functional except the cell phone so I'm in a grey area on this one.

I always turn my phone off during presentations and plays - "silent" ringers still make noise, you know.

I turn my cell phone off every night when I go to bed (10/11p). The Blackberry stays on almost constantly, but I don't check it at home until I'm going to bed.
My blackberry shuts itself off at 7PM every evening and restarts every morning at 6:00 AM - 11 hours a day disconnected - it was tough at first but then I realized that they only people that I would really want to talk to during those hours have my home phone number
