This is a tough one, and I think everyone has to look at it and decide for themselves. Yes, Halloween is derived from a paegan holy day. But so are many Christmas traditions, as well as the timeframe for Christmas. So do we, as Christians, stop having Christmas trees?
People looking at this as a reason for free candy probably have no idea of the holiday's inception. Those using it for mischief - such as those in Detroit (Devil's Night) - probably know exactly what the holiday began as, and use it as justification for their bad behavior.
Now, if you were to ask about whether churches should have activities for Halloween, well.... that's a whole 'nuther thing!!
Really folks, haven’t we got more important things to worry about. Like who is going to run this country and whether things are going to get worse. I love Jesus but I'm sick and tired of Christians manipulating the world to their opinions. Halloween, Christmas, Easter, and many other holidays are made up fun for children whether right or wrong. There are no biblical truths to any of them. As Christians they represent Birth, resurrection and death and that's it. Without them Jesus would still have died for our sins and resurrected on the 3rd day. We need to quit squabbling over the stupid stuff and spend more time making our lives a living example of our lord Jesus Christ so others will want to experience the Joy we have. Feed the hungry, go on a short term missions trip, take a meal to a family that incurred a death or a birth, say hi to a homeless person, be nice to the people you work with, try not to be a hypocrite, send some flowers to someone in need, invite someone to church. Explain to your kids the love of God and let them dress up and trick or treat (just don't let them dress up in a devil costume). I'm 47 years old and I know Jesus doesn't want me to worry about crap like this. He wants me to go to the corners of the earth and proclaim his glory and lead people to him so that he can save souls. I promise you, I'm no one special, Just a washed up Rocker but i know what Gods purpose is for me and it's not to worry about un biblical holidays, Enjoy the times and get over it.
